I’m not saying that Kennedy didn’t do what you speculate. But.......

Did they even have DUI charges back then? Especially the way they do now?
And, if they did, a Kennedy on the Vineyard, getting pulled over by the island cops, he probably would have gotten a ride home from the police, worst case.
With all the power that family wielded, back then, in Mass and the country, if he was pulled over and cited/arrested, that cop probably would have ended up in a lobster pot.

I thought I read once, that he showed up at a party that night and further examination of the time line, it would have been while she was drowning or already dead. And he didn’t say anything to anyone, at the time.

That's very interesting.... had Teddy stayed out of trouble, he probably would have gone on to be President. Although he escaped a legal penalty and never lost his senate seat, the Chappaquiddick incident turned just enough people off that it doomed his presidential aspirations. Thank God.

Although it cost Mary Jo her life, she saved us from a Ted Kennedy presidency.

Howie Carr also wrote the foreword to the reissue of Leo Damore's book. The reissue also has a new title: Power, Privilege, and the Ted Kennedy Cover-Up . I'm skipping the movie and reading Damore's book.

I have relatives in eastern MA (Fall River) why they continually voted for miscreants like Ted Kennedy and Barney Franks. Their best answer was because they are democrats. Logic was never able to persuade them.

I don’t bring up politics when I visit.

“What happened in Chappaquiddick was just the Kennedys being Kennedys.”

Great line! My point is that I agree with you. When I was majoring in English in college, we were constantly reminded that the true meaning of “tragedy” is when a fault within a man causes his downfall (and, thus, the destruction of others), which is why Chappiquiddick WAS a tragedy because, as you put it: “What happened in Chappaquiddick was just the Kennedys being Kennedys.”

Thanks Kaslin. Now that it's been long enough that most of those who obstructed justice and/or committed perjury to protect the Original Fat Pantload, the other factual presentations of his (and their) crimanal actions could re-emerge. I haven't checked YouTube. It was never a secret, but the straight-ticket voting Demwit drones of my childhood always condemned anyone who brought it up.

Clearly, Cate Mara will have to play Lori Klausitis in the “(Very Early) Morning Joe” biopic.

Movie coming out this week, infact looks like Thursday here in Newnan, GA.

Don’t know how they will describe the events. It seems to me that Kennedy was not in the car when it went over the bridge, but there are so many questions. Formost being the changing stories that he gave, and the cover up.

There was absolutely no public scrutiny of it.

He claims that he swam back to his room, but I saw some report that he was speaking to the manager of the motel at 2:30AM. Was he in wet clothes? Or was the hotel manager paid to lie.

You have him seen by Deputy Sheriff Look at around 12:45am. He supposedly left the part at midnight with her. Told no one they were leaving. SHe leaves her purse at the party.

I contend that he was so drunk, he didn’t recall what had happened. He last remembered driving, but I think he got out of the car when he was approached by Officer Look, and panicked. He drives off a piece, then gets out of the car. He tells her to drive down to the beach. She does, goes off the bridge.

He follows on foot, and of course, it’s dark and he doesn’t see the car in the water. He doesn’t see the car at the beach. So, what does he do. Sleep on the beach, swim back to Edgartown?

The scenario where she was driving by herself always made the most sense to me too. It’s not popular with the hate-Teddy-above-all crowd though.
