Either way don’t run. They are going to catch you more times than not.
Tough situation to be in for sure. I have watched all the videos from body cam and the helicopter and definately do not want to be in either of those shoes. (Which is why I do not commit crimes and am not LEO). I would like to hope, that not knowing for sure, I would hold until I could no longer. And maybe thats where they were in the moment.
In my mind, you take the risk until you no longer can take it or until you have a very clear understanding of your target and what is behind it (prob the hunter in me, ingrained since I can remember). This risk taking, to ensure you do not take the life of an american citizen, is in my mind something to be praised for and the police of old had it in spades.

Here is a thread with video of an altercation where the officer seems to wait for as long as he can, gets a very clear understanding of the threat and does the only thing he could do in that instance.
In my mind this officer gave that citizen as much leway as he possibly could
I just watched the press conference by the pathologist.
I agree.
That’s why he ran. Imo.
The police were called due to a guy apparently attempting to break into homes as there were reports to police of someone breaking house windows. He was chased by police and headed back towards his relative’s home. All he had to do was stop when ordered to do so.
Keep in mind that this fellow had an extensive criminal record going back several years and up until recent times.
If you think that cops have it easy in their jobs, then I suggest you take a look at the Pasadena, TX video of the police officer who pulled over a vehicle for running a stop sign.
I recommend that you tune in the A&E channel on a Friday or Saturday evening and watch their Live PD show. It is amazing just how many of these jerks who are pulled over for simple vehicle violations decide to try and outrun the police only because they have a suspended license or a warrant is outstanding for their arrest on some minor matter.
The speed and momentum of the turn could have quickly exposed his back.
When they say he was shot in the back, perhaps they're hedging and what the autopsy shows is on his side and his back as he was turning.
We need to look at the autopsy drawings to see where each bullet entered.
Maybe he committed suicide by shooting himself in the back with that cell phone he was holding.
“A day at the Races?”
Marx Brothers...?
Back in my 20s’
I ran
And I got caught.
Not always!
You are wasting your time with doodle. IT is one of the biggest liberals on FR.
Chicken/egg
Which came first?
In this case I’ll bet the running came first.
Based on his getting shot six times in the back. It was a pretty logical conclusion.
There is video. He was not only facing them he was moving toward them, after having immediately prior run from them.
It's hard to make out anything on the officers' video. The chopper video is also unclear. It looks to me like the police came around the building, he turned towards them, and they shot him.
Based on what I can make out, he may not have been turned away from them, but "moving towards them" isn't exactly accurate either. It looks more like he was trying to get into the house and then turned -- either because he heard a noise or because he was shot.
“It looks more like he was trying to get into the house and then turned — either because he heard a noise or because he was shot.”
Heard a noise?
I’m sorry but the entire post is ludicrous. The quote above is just one example.
I agree he was probably planning to go in the sliding glass door, which us why after retreating from the cops he moved back toward them.
Examiners of forensic evidence who are paid for by criminal defense attorneys are too often, "court whores". They'll bring down $10,000 a day for their specialized testimony.
But judging from the language of your posts it doesn't look like you really care.
Of course it does.
