Facing backlash, California county rescinds homeless shelter plan

Facing a public backlash, officials in Southern California's Orange County rescinded their plan Tuesday for emergency homeless shelters in three cities.

The homeless shelters in Irvine, Huntington Beach and Laguna Niguel were to house up to 400 people, the Orange County Register reported. Laguna Niguel ranks seventh among the nation’s wealthiest cities, according to a 2016 Register report.

"They're just dumping these poor people in our neighborhoods and communities where there are like six schools and, you know, little children walking to school," Irvine resident Radhika Athlaye told ABC7. "Just a general area where it's not right for either the homeless or the residents of Irvine."

NIMBY bothers me. They elected the people doing this or allowing it. Deal with the consequences!

On the otherbhand, relocate and house homeless where they might find employment, medical help, etc. Filter out and deport the illegal aliens if any. Just dumping them in a rich neighborhood park is a bit senseless, though politically satisfying.

Even a liberal will freak out when he’s stuck with a million dollar mortgage and the government is threatening to reduce his property value to 100K at best.

I guess even some Californians have a limit as too how much they’ll take. Now if only they’d take back their state from the Democrats that are running it into the ground.

I ran into a Victor Davis Hanson speech last evening that addresses this exact thing. The divide between the decision-makers and the areas affected by their utopian schemes is growing - Hanson called California a "bifurcated state", working as he does in the rich branch, living in the poor one. There is wealth in that state at a fantastic level and they're broke. It happened, as the old story of the bankrupt rich man goes, "slowly at first and then all at once."

The magnitude of the disaster is such that surrounding states won't be able to help, neither in the way of natural resources such as water and power, nor in the way of buttressing a creaky financial system. The big guy is too big to carry out of the burning building. Not much you can do.

“Is Orange County still Repub?”

Hilbeast won the popular vote in 2016 but:

All five County Board of Supervisors are Republican.

Most of the state and local government representatives are Republican.

Two of the three Congressional districts located entirely within Orange County are Republican.

Why would we?

We didn't make the problem.

We warned against the problem.

It's not OUR Problem!

It was in your power to create the problem, it's in YOUR power to fix the problem.

Fix it, get back to us when you're done and have learned your lesson.

Hilbeast won the popular vote in 2016 but:

One wonders if Hillary would have won if only living citizens residing in the precincts were allowed to vote?

Do you know the difference between Putin and Hillary?

Putin can win an election rigged in his favor...

Well, the lefties need to come up with some kind of answer that they can stomach.

I think it’s going to look like establishing policies that are faith-friendly. Get the Salvation Army to want to be there, for example. Get Catholic charities to want to be there. Etc.
