Should the Military Build the Wall?
Townhall.com ^ | March 25, 2018 | Timothy Meads

Today, President Donald J. Trump offered a new way possible for America to build the border wall, even after the omnibus spending bill signed on Friday left many wondering if construction will ever start. His suggestion? Have the military build it.

Early Sunday morning, President Trump pointed out the fact that the border wall is a matter of national security. America therefore should simply have the Department of Defense over see the project in order to keep out drugs and enemy combatants, according to the commander in chief.

Because of the $700 & $716 Billion Dollars gotten to rebuild our Military, many jobs are created and our Military is again rich. Building a great Border Wall, with drugs (poison) and enemy combatants pouring into our Country, is all about National Defense. Build WALL through M!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 25, 2018

It is estimated that the border wall will cost roughly $18 billion dollars. The omnibus bill allotted only $1.6 billion, but President Trump says a lot can be done with that money.

Much can be done with the $1.6 Billion given to building and fixing the border wall. It is just a down payment. Work will start immediately. The rest of the money will come - and remember DACA, the Democrats abandoned you (but we will not)!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 25, 2018

President Trump's comments echo similar statements made last December when he touted border security as his first pillar of defense in a speech on National Security.

As reported by CNS News, President Trump said,

“First, we must protect the American people, the homeland and our great American way of life,” Trump said. “This strategy recognizes that we cannot secure our nation if we do not secure our borders."

"So, for the first time ever, American strategy now includes a serious plan to defend our homeland,"added Trump. "It calls for the construction of a wall on out southern border, ending chain migration and the horrible visa and lottery programs, closing loopholes that undermine enforcement, and strongly supporting our Border Patrol agents, ICE officers, and Homeland Security Personnel.”

The military should not build the wall. They are soldiers not road workers.

Some of them are both - ask the Sea Bees and Red Horse ....

It would be easy for the next liberal POTUS to simply recall the military

Ever see the Berlin Wall?

They built the ALCAN Highway and the Dawson Pipeline. Sure, there were civilian contractors, but the Army did it!

This is a no-brainer and excellent training while providing a tangible and long-lasting benefit to our country’s security...which is their job!

Oh, for God’s Sakes, Man! Have you ever heard of the CBS? How about Army Combat Engineers? How about the Army Corps of Engineers?

What a vacuous statement!

Great idea! Lots of people don’t realize the scope of activities the Army Corps of Engineers is involved in along the coast line of Michigan. Building new and reinforcing existing seawalls are just one of the things they do......

Thank the Congress for the ridiculous prices of hammers. My ex-wife was a “cost analyst” for Lockheed. It was a federally-mandated, non-productive expense. No matter if it was a missile system or a hammer, back in 1990, it cost $150,000 to do the federally-manadate analysis and justification for each acquisition, no matter how small.

Your examples make for great headlines, and I am sure make you feel smug, but are incredibly misleading and blame the wrong party.

And why would you think it any cheaper to use the same rules to build a wall as it was to build an airplane?

Thanks for the pic! And note the see through wall/fence that the President and the border agents want.

1.3 billion could go a long way! The naysayers need to get a grip.

The military will not be hands on.

The selected wall contractor/s will be contracted by the military to build the wall. I believe the military agency having responsibility for construction projects off military bases within the CONUS is the US Army Corps of engineers.

Further, there are apparently some wall contracts ready to start today.

We or at least I don’t know where of for what they will be implemented.

Exactly.

Have you ever seen the Great Wall of China, or the walls in a Israel?

The point was just like troops can be moved, so can walls. Inaction based on future possibilities are just excuses. Nothing is forever except His Word.
