NYPD Commissioner: ‘Insanity’ to Allow National Concealed Carry for Law-Abiding Citizens

New York Police Department commissioner James O’Neill says it is “insanity” to allow national concealed carry reciprocity for law-abiding citizens.

He suggested more guns will only lead to more violence, although a 2012 Congressional Research Service study showed that a massive increase in private gun ownership–from 192 million firearms in 1994 to 310 million firearms in 2009–correlated with sharp drops in crime.

Moreover, the Crime Prevention Research Center (CRPC) has shown that concealed carry permit holders are among the most law-abiding of law-abiding citizens. To highlight how just how law-abiding concealed carriers are CPRC juxtaposed crimes by police versus crimes by concealed carry permit holders. They used Texas permit holders as their sample

“NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill will remain the top cop for at least four more years, he and the mayor announced in a press conference at City Hall on Thursday.”

I think we’ve found the genesis of his remarks! NYC, where literally thousands of thugs carry guns on a daily basis, and they think that national reciprocity would be a bad thing.

There are only three types of people who do not support the RKBA:

1. The first type are the ambivalent. Firearms have not played any significant role in their lives. They may have no opinion on the matter and have given it little thought, or they may have mixed feelings having heard arguments from both sides, but haven't been swayed one way or another. IMHO, these people can be easily swayed to our side with positive interaction from gun owners.

2. The second type are the emotional. They have bought into anti-gun agitprop, refuse to look at the issue rationally or listen to facts. These people will never be swayed to our side unless and until they choose to put their emotional opposition to the matter on ice. While some of These people may be sincerely well-intended and truly believe society would be safer, they are nonetheles dangerous because their political weight gets thrown behind the third type.

3. The third type are the statist/tyrants. They have no interest in public safety, only control.

Didn’t the Detroit police chief (before he took that job) get properly educated about law abiding people and guns by spending time in Maine or somewhere else like that where practically every one has guns accompanied with low crime and violence rates?

Hmm... I read the whole article. Funny how there’s no mention of Commissioner O’Neill disarming his own bodyguards.

NYPD Commissioner Francis Reagan aka Tom Selleck most likely disagrees with Commissioner O’Neill on this one.

Wanna hear something even worse? If you are Police Officer, employed outside of the five boroughs, you can not carry a firearm within the five boroughs. If you are a Yonkers PD officer and want to take your family to Radio City to see the Christmas show, you cannot legally be armed. You can be a New York State Trooper and be assigned to Troop L, on Long Island and cannot carry legally in the city. Guys took their duty weapons with them, so if they got hassled, NYPD would have to explain to the Bosses of their agencies, why they took the weapons.

CPRC showed that from January 1, 2005, through December 31, 2007, the yearly rate of misdemeanors and felonies by full-time police officers was .102 percent. On the other hand, the yearly rate for Texas’ concealed carry permit holders in the year 2015–the year campus carry was signed into law in that state–was .0102 percent.”

The meat and potatoes of this article.....imho.

There are over 100 million of legal gun owners with trillions of rounds of ammunition. So, we’re the ones who’re dangerous?

Also: Perhaps he can explain how all the gun laws in NYC have prevented any shootings there? Like words on a piece of paper will stop some hoodie from robbing and shooting anyone? Right, just hold up a piece of paper what that law written on it in the muggers face and say "neener neener, you can't do anything with that gu >blam<
