False tsunami warning sent to the East Coast, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean
NBC News ^ | February 6, 2018 | Kalhan Rosenblatt

Some residents along the East Coast received a false tsunami warning on Tuesday morning after a private company sent out an alert following a monthly test by the National Weather Service.

A tweet from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, South Carolina, said the alert was sent around 8:30 a.m. ET.

"We have been notified that some users received this test message as an actual Tsunami Warning," the NWS tweeted, adding that a tsunami warning was "not in effect."

A monthly Tsunami Warning test was issued around 830 am by @NWS_NTWC . We have been notified that some users received this test message as an actual Tsunami Warning. A Tsunami Warning is not in effect. Repeat, a Tsunami Warning is not in effect #chswx #gawx #savwx #scwx — NWS Charleston, SC (@NWSCharlestonSC) February 6, 2018

***THERE IS NO TSUNAMI WARNING***

A Tsunami Test was conducted earlier this morning, that did have TEST in the message. We are currently trying to find out how a message went out as a warning. We will update you when we find out more. — NWS New York NY (@NWSNewYorkNY) February 6, 2018 In a statement to NBC News, the NWS said that a routine test was sent out and that the agency is investigating why it was communicated as an actual tsunami.

"The test message was released by at least one private sector company as an official Tsunami Warning, resulting in widespread reports of tsunami warnings received via phones and other media across the East Coast, Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean. We're currently looking into why the test message was communicated as an actual tsunami warning, and will provide more information as soon as we have it," the NWS said.

The agency said their test message "was not disseminated to the public via any communications channels operated by the National Weather Service."

The push notification sent to phones in South Carolina was reportedly sent by the AccuWeather app, according to The Post and Courier of Charleston.

AccuWeather also tweeted that the notification was a test, not an actual warning.

"The National Weather Service Tsunami Warning this morning was a TEST. No Tsunami warning is in effect for the East Coast of the U.S.," the tweet said.

It was not immediately clear how many people received the warning.

Similar reports were also made in New York, Boston, Miami and Houston.

We have been receiving reports that an erroneous tsunami alert across New England. Please note there is NO TSUNAMI THREAT FOR New England. — NWS Boston (@NWSBoston) February 6, 2018

904AM: A Tsunami Warning was mistakenly sent by an app. There is no Tsunami Warning in effect. It was just a Tsunami test message. — NWS Miami (@NWSMiami) February 6, 2018

FYI - There is no tsunami threat for the Gulf coast. A TEST message was issued around 830AM by @NWS_NTWC and is not an actual tsunami warning. #houwx #txwx #glswx — NWS Houston (@NWSHouston) February 6, 2018 The false alarm is reminiscent of the incorrect alert sent out last month warning of an imminent missile attack in Hawaii.

The mistake sparked panic on Jan. 13, sending Hawaii residents scrambling for shelter amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and North Korea over the regime’s nuclear ambitions.

CORRECTION (Feb. 6, 2018, 10:45 a.m.): An earlier version of this article misstated that the National Weather Service sent out the false tsunami warning. It was sent by a private company after a test by the National Weather Service, not by the weather service itself.

My co-worker got a Tsunami warning for the East Coast on his phone. I smell a false flag to negatively influence the stock market today.

Honestly, I would normally say incompetence, but I am starting to wonder if this isn’t one purpose. From who or what, I don’t know, but with this FISA issue coming to light, anything is possible.

According to my sources there have been a number of incidents up to and including ballistic missile launches disguised to look like they came from North Korea that are intended to lure Trump into an act of war that they can then use as an excuse to remove him from office by denying that they ever happened.

I can see the Atlantic from my windows, here in CT, and didn’t get an alert.

Still, the recent false alarms were supposedly only false since we managed to shoot down missiles that, if you believe the reporting, were an attempt by the Deep State to draw Trump into war.

So, is that some sort of capability lurking off the East Coast, where some enemy state, presumably, has the ability to set off a blast that would launch a tsunami where a tsunami would not naturally occur?

In between those two was Japan.

If someone who knows about the volcano called Cumbre Vieja, on La Palma in the Canary islands and the tsunami predicted if it blows receives this text message, there could be a heart attack involved. Who do they sue?
