According to data from the Migration Policy Institute, over one quarter (25.8 percent) of all Americans under the age of 18 has at least one immigrant parent, as of 2016double the share of immigrant children from 1990.
Specifically, there are 17,997,000 children with immigrant parents in America, as compared to 51,892,000 million children with two American-born parents:
These figures are comprehensive, and include both anchor babies and illegal immigrants.
The data here include only children (regardless of their nativity) who reside with at least one parent. The term children of immigrants (or children in immigrant families) refers to children under 18 with at least one immigrant parent. The term immigrants refers to people residing in the United States who were not U.S. citizens at birth. This population includes naturalized citizens, lawful permanent residents (LPRs), certain legal nonimmigrants (e.g., persons on student or work visas), those admitted under refugee or asylee status, and persons illegally residing in the United States.
However, it is worth noting that the MPIs data-set may not be entirely accurate, and the figure could be significantly higher.

Who's assimilating with who?
America needs a twenty year moratorium on ALL immigration.
From everywhere.

Let’s all be careful not to confuse LEGAL IMMIGRANTS with ILLEGAL ALIENS, especially the author. (I know, that’s the real intent).
I was just wondering what our population birthrate would be without the “immigrants” having kids. There are very few kids in the phillyburb I am in.
Ted Kennedy’s Babylonian legacy.
I’m not confused.
America needs a moratorium on ALL immigration, both illegal AND legal.
Demographics determine destiny
Define "immigrant," ass***es!!

Exactly. A generation. Needs to be done else assimilation will continue to decline because they simply won't 'need' to in order to fit in to society.
“——— If 1 in 3 children is a 1st or 2nd generation immigrant, there’s just no way we can assimilate them——”
Of course they can be assimilated, they just don’t want to be.
I was born in 1932 in a Boston neighborhood and most of us had at least one parent from another country-——they had poured in during the 1920s.
All schools had one language,English. All municipalities had one language,English. If a new immigrant couldn’t speak the English they brought a family member or friend to translate.
The parents eventually learned English and became citizens.
Different times.
.
Even if no more immigrant families came, the number of Americans being born to intact families is not enough to sustain prosperity. How do we get American citizens to take the plunge and raise children?
We have brought in 35 million LEGAL PERMANENT IMMIGRANTS since 1990. This is the equivalent of the current population of Canada. Legal immigration is a far greater problem than illegal aliens. Every year we bring in more than one million LEGAL PERMANENT IMMIGRANTS.
There somewhere. This generation is larger then baby boomers.
What difference does it make in terms of its impact on the country? The impact on our schools, hospitals, welfare system, prisons, infrastructure needs, culture, etc. is the same regardless of the source of the immigrants.
Frightening———we are living in a whole new country.
I liked the old one better.
