I remember when my Dad was stationed in Turkey and we didn’t have AFN.....we literally sat on our balcony (in Ankara) and watched the moon landing with binoculars on one of our Turkish neighbors TV through their window.....aaaah the memories of being an AF brat!

I don’t recall that (I was probably asleep between midnight and six) but I do recall being at the mercy of their rather bad programming.
Very painful when you’re stuck inside during a three-day typhoon with nothing but AFN for company.

This latest version of the shutdown has really got me thinking of the book Animal Farm - re-read it a few years ago. With who gets paid and who doesn’t is the epitome of “some animals are more equal than others”. And the rules that the pigs created and then changed to benefit only them and their breaking the very rules that they created. The one that comes instantly to mind, “no animal shall sleep in a bed” gets a simple change of “with sheets” added to it. You common folk can sexually harass your staff, but we can and you will pay any punishment that gets awarded. You common folk will go to jail for insider trading but we can do it. I could go on all day, but too nice outside - going to go get the bike started up and waste some fossil fuel for a few hours.
You identified the central question. If there was no cost to the military, why take on an Obama-like, destructive action? No reason makes sense unless it’s someone trying to replicate Obama’s approach and make Trump look bad. They should be called out and disciplined, if for nothing other than stupidity.
Here’s an idea - why don’t we just get out of these senseless wars and entanglements and bring our soldiers home? Plenty of work to be done on our own borders.

I’m in a philly burb for a bit and every house on the street had a member in a jersey or jacket. Obviously a dem street. LOL My brothers are scattered, conservative, veterans, and watching.

In case anyone doesn’t know this, when those in power abuse their power, God hates it.
