Empty prisons, grounded warplanes: U.S. budget dysfunction hits home
el Reuters ^ | January 19, 2018 | by Andy Sullivan

Three hours west of Chicago, a federal prison stands ready to take in thousands of inmates and hire hundreds of guards, but its expansion is on hold, awaiting approval from a U.S. Congress that is again paralyzed by budget disputes.

In Florida, the Coast Guard patrols the waters off President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, working off an outdated budget that has not increased to account for this new mission.

Across the country, with the 2018 fiscal year well under way, the U.S. government is carrying out duties ranging from nuclear weapons development to homeless assistance, but its spending levels and priorities are four months out of date.

That is because Congress, once again, failed last year to approve a new budget on time by Oct. 1. Instead, lawmakers since then have approved three temporary spending measures that have kept the fiscal 2017 budget in place.

Did we ever have an approved budget while Obama was president, or were we just approving annual continuing resolutions?

Well, Reuter’s, looks like the USA should shut down its military installations in Germany and the rest of Europe, Asia and Africa after 75 years and use the money at home. It’s time to put America first!!!

That prison in Illinois has NEVER been used, IIRC.

Of course, the inference is that this is Trump’s fault.

Regarding the empty prison, there were a lot of other issues? But now back in the news?

It’s time again to make a list of the massive carnage resulting from Congress having a spending stall. The tactic is getting threadbare.

We have military basses in European wealthy countries like Germany and England that vote against us in the UN, CLOSE THEM DOWN. The German bases should be in Poland where its closer strategically to Russia and Ukraine.

We could save money by cutting our UK contribution to that the Chinese pay, their economy is almost as big as ours.

We pay the Fake Palistinians $350 billion a year and they give monthy payments to Terrorists and their family’s. The payments total close per year to what they get paid by us and they have never kept one obligation under OSLO and are partners with Hamas.

Time to look at who in the world votes with us in UN, who pays their agreed to share of Nato and other organizations and who trades with us on a fair basis. Reward the good guys and punish those that are Sunshine Friends.

And it failed to pass, correct?

I recall one budget he touted that had zero support.

The prison in IL that this is referencing, was one that barry and co. wanted to use to bring the gitmo inmates to!

Additionally, they wanted any subsequent terrorists to be taken there and await trial, in an American court of law.
