Cuomo proposes state tax overhaul to counteract federal reforms
New York Post ^ | January 16 2018 | Kirstan Conley and Danika Fears

In a desperate move to “thwart” the federal tax overhaul, Gov. Cuomo said Tuesday he wants to make sweeping changes to the state tax code as he unveiled his new $168 billion budget plan.

The governor’s proposal would shift the state from collecting an income tax paid by individuals to a payroll tax paid by businesses — which would be fully deductible by businesses on federal returns. ... > snip < ... To close the state’s $4.4 billion budget deficit, Cuomo proposed $1 billion in new taxes and fees.

It warms my heart to see our NY State politicians in a panic over the loss of SALT deductions for constituents, as the spotlight now shines brightly on their own profligate reckless taxing-n-spending.

Lil' Andy Cuomo plans to make up for the $4.4 billion deficit (yep, read that right: $4.4 BILLION Deficit !!), by (guess what?) ... raising taxes !!! And shifting the tax to employers, so as to "hide" the tax from We The People ...

It's the only thing these lefties know! /laughs

We're on to you, Lil' Andy ....

I know, right? And just how is this going to go over with the folks in NY?

Trump gives everyone a tax break. The people scream “yay!”.

Cuomo says “No, no, no, tax cuts are bad, mmmmmkkaayy? Here, let me tax you THIS way”

That’s gonna fly???? Seriously???

Andy's brother, Chris, will be able to summarize the plan on his magic "white" board, after Chris cleans up his language.

A Democrat never met a tax they didn’t like. Andy cueball thinks he can blame it all on Trump. Never let a crisis go to waste.

If we had a State GOP worth a damn, it would be a great opening.

Actually it's a brilliant move on Trump's part ... instead of the high-tax States (such as NY) "hiding" their profligate taxation by means of the SALT deduction, the spotlight is now brightly shining straight into the Statehouse ... where the people are now asking: "Hey, wait a minute ... how come New York is charging me 20 times more in taxes than say, North Carolina, for the same level of civic services" ???

Leftie politicians in blue States are now on the spot to answer (or twist in the wind) ....

How would this work?

Businesses will reduce salaries to offset the additional payroll tax that substitutes for personal/individual income tax. Individuals make less money but might pay less in federal income tax. Lower income people that don’t itemize will go insane. All this just to help taxpayers who itemize.

Go for it governor.

Money is their lifeblood. Piles and piles of money, seized from people who work their a$$es off to earn it. Without money they would be nothing. They love money. They hate it when the flow of easy money is reduced.

The left takes money from those who earn it and gives it to those who lob around, smoke pot, make babies, wail for more money, and who VOTE DEMOCRAT!

Better this arse says that it won’t cause businesses anything. Does a federal tax audit count?

The governor’s proposal would shift the state from collecting an income tax paid by individuals to a payroll tax paid by businesses — which would be fully deductible by businesses on federal returns.

I don't think businesses would like this solution. And does it pass legal muster? Where would the payroll tax go? To the general funds in the state coffers to be used for any purpose or to a special, earmarked fund? Sounds like a shell game.

I work for a company based in NY with offices in Indiana and Iowa. We are begging the owners to move out of NY to Indiana or Iowa.
