Just thinking about this, I think that if I had been in Hawaii and received this warning I would immediately say “BS.” I would think it’s more likely a mistake than an actual attack.
The reason is that you would naturally associate it with North Korea, but while NK has the bomb, even the H-bomb, and ICBMs, I doubt that they have the ability to put all but the smallest bombs on their missiles at this point, and they likely don’t have very accurate aim. Also, it would be insane to attack Hawaii because even if you get a direct hit, the US would retaliate and blow you to kingdom come.
Having said that, though, I would not put it passed Kim to launch an UNARMED test missile toward Hawaii. In fact, now that he sees what our reaction is, I suspect he’ll do it in the near future.
