Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

John 15:13: Greater love hath a man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
He was from Ghana, had immigrated to the Bronx 5 years ago and enlisted in the Army National Guard, was home from boot camp awaiting next assignment. Saved a family of four, went back for one more, the fire trapped him and took his life.

IMO he should be awarded the Soldiers Medal for his selfless actions.

A Hero—if more immigrants were like him—there would be no problems. I believe that any foreigner who serves this nation in combat and is honorably discharged should be given his citizenship and his spouse and children too. Same for firefighters, and first responders. If this man had survived he should have been granted citizenship by Trump—I think even he would OK that move.

What a shame the fire was cause by a 3 year old. Sad that the young child’s family did not purchase Stove Knob Covers.

Absolutely appropriate. Any lower precedent award would be a disservice to this valiant soldier.

I thought serving in the Armed Forces was a fast track to citizenship if honorable. Be that as it may, I wasn't sure where Ghana was, maybe Africa. It's in a little string of countries on the northernmost section that has that promontory westward into the Atlantic. Like in an armpit if you'll forgive the comparison. You'd think it would have some lovely coastline along the southern part. Don't want to speculate what might be wrong with that place.
To come to New York and live packed like sardines in a firetrap tenement house although it didn't look bad at all to me from the exterior where you couldn't see that well. And coastal New York is so lovely in the winter. Not.
Wonder what the attraction is for them? Meaning everyday living experience.
Agreed, sounds like he'd have made an American that would have done us proud. He's already done that and then some.

And the doors could have should have been self-closing but evidently weren't or didn't work.
Imagine what those places would have been like a century ago.
I didn't know there were covers for the knobs. Would have to be mandated by law and then people might try to foil them (not saying this mother would).
