Trump’s biggest enemy isn’t the media — it’s himself
NY Post ^ | Dec 19, 2017 | Michael Goodwin

Posted on 12/19/2017 10:42:44 PM PST by Oshkalaboomboom

Speaking as Congress neared final approval of the historic tax bill, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders hailed the culmination of a year of major accomplishments. She cited the defeat of the Islamic State, the creation of 1.7 million new jobs, the lowest unemployment rate in 17 years, a rollback of excessive regulations, and more than 60 record highs of the stock market.

It is an impressive list, yet a catch was reflected in a question. Why, a reporter asked, in the face of such accomplishments, do polls show President Trump’s approval stuck at under 40 percent?

Sanders is good on her feet, and her answer was aggressive without being incendiary. She blamed the media for its lopsided coverage, saying it ignores accomplishments to focus on “other things” and echoed studies showing that 90 percent of TV coverage of Trump “has been negative.”

She’s absolutely right — in fact, she understated the bias that drives much of the anti-Trump coverage around the clock and around the country. And she’s right to hope that the tax bill’s help for families will help Trump’s standing in the polls.

But there’s more to the answer than media bias, and while Sanders can’t say it, I will.

Her boss remains his own biggest problem.

“Why, a reporter asked, in the face of such accomplishments, do polls show President Trump’s approval stuck at under 40 percent? “

Because they aren’t. These the same polls that had Hillary winning?

“But then Trump wrapped the rope around his own neck, saying she “would do anything” for campaign contributions. It was vague enough to let the jackals turn it into red meat.”
...

“That’s a neat trick — in a few badly chosen words, Trump lifted her and made himself look small and mean.”

They don’t get it. Trump chooses his words wisely.

I think it would be foolish for the media think he doesn’t have a solid 45/50 percent approval rating, but also foolish for us to think it’s way above 50 percent with the pure hatred the media spews non stop since he was elected..even before he was sworn into office.
I’d say it’s evenly divided give or take one or two percent.

The sunny and likable Reagan went through the same thing even as he engineered an economic revival. For the general public, it takes rising wages and take home pay before they feel that the economy is booming and credit the incumbent president for doing a good job.

I wouldn’t go that far. However, Trump does hurt himself when he gets involved in too many childish twitter rants. I hope those go away. He can troll the media all day long on twitter or wherever else.

right? and then she shut her big mouth after POTUS and DJTJr exposed her for begging him for money every other day.

Here’s the problem with the media. Do they really think people outside their dumb little bubble know about that woman or care what POTUS said to her via a tweet?
Do they think anyone outside of political junkies paid any attention to that exchange?
They were all spinning in circles about it mean while out in the real country Americans yawned or didn’t even notice.

Agreed.

I’d put his legit approval at about 50%,which is fine. He’s never gonna be a 60%+ type president, just too polarizing. I think whenever it dips, its strictly personality based. The moderates and squishy undecideds get queasy when he gets into twitter wars. Correcting and slamming the Fake news is fine & needed but he does tend to go overboard sometimes and it overshadows the massive successes of this admin.

They never really reveal the questions they ask in these pols. For example, if someone called me and asked “do you approve of the way DJT is handling prosecuting the previous administration...” I’d say NO

Do you approve of the way DJT is accepting DACA crap into the budget?” I’d say NO

But that doesn’t mean I don’t think he’s doing a bang up job, and may go down as the greatest POTUS in my lifetime!

Trump wouldn’t be able to get anything past the media filters without it. Part of the reason he does those twitter fights is to get his point out there. Media absolutely ignores anything he does that’s very polished and sophisticated.

For example, Trump reset middle east relations by creating a Sunni & Israeli league against Iran. Media hasn’t covered it at all despite it being a major change in foreign relations. Same with his speech on American strategic goals. Working with those constraints Trump needs to create drama to get his message out.

Lord love a duck, this hasn’t changed.

If you can’t disprove the message, you discredit the messenger. Right out of Saul Alinsky’s book. Keep the faith Post. It’ll come back around like penny loafers since there are enough media half wits out there to believe your lies.

I’m talking the personal insults. That is what needs to stop. Sure, use twitter to get your message out there all day long! I am 100% for that. Because the media will not report anything good, twist words, and outright lie about everything else he is doing.
