I wonder what it means for people from Washington, Nevada and Oregon who drive in California.

Don't you worry about that. They'll be leaving the gas tax in place. This will be a special tax in addition to that for Californicators.

You forgot to mentions WHY Gray Davis got recalled & ARNOLD got to be Governor-—

Davis EMPTIED the gas tax funds —3 times—and put that money into the General Fund. He left an IOU behind, I guess.

He also fiddles with getting power from a number of sources & got caught up in a scandal with that.

Worse- the enviros demanded that many small hydroelectric power producing dams be torn down-—for the fishes—or whatever—and now, Calif has a severe power shortage.

Well, when you tax an activity, you get less of it. Maybe their roads won’t be so clogged now. :)

“I will not visit Cali ever if this passes...”

I hope my daughter understands why we don't visit.

CA is the first syllable in CACA!

“Stoopid peeple,” settle in the “Coastal Desert,” LA, and wonder why they have no rain, yet fires, mudslides, and earthquakes. SOMEONE is telling them that they made a big mistake. I just can't bring myself to pity them.

If they do this, I will put a proposition on the Ballot to make it a FELONY Punishable by 20 years in Prison for ANY Public Employee that uses a Taxpayer Owned or Funded Vehicle for any reason not strictly work related, including driving back and forth to work from home.

If they did that here in Virginia I think about 90% of all cops would be felons.

I was so disgusted after 9/11 when the local, especially Fairfax County, police used the Pentagon attack to get massive federal funding and let all of their cops have a vehicle to take home. They used the excuse that it was hard for their off duty cops to race to work after the attack because they didn't have the emergency lights. Also, they can use the HOV/HOT lanes for free.

I had a psychotic neighbor who was a Fairfax County cop and he used his official vehicle for everything including vacation trips. He had one of those Dodge Magnums and used it to pack his daughter off to college and then he and his wife took a two week vacation to the Outer Banks with the same vehicle. He joked about using the government credit card for gas as they never audited the accounts, just scammed more cash from the Feds. With his overtime he bragged about making $120K and he never had to use his vehicles of pay for gas.

My old flip phone is smart enough not to go blabbing everything to everyone.

I forget to take it with me half the time. When I do, half the time I forget to turn it on. Can’t use while I’m driving and I’ve been driving to the same grocery store longer than smart phones have been in existence so don’t need it to give directions. What’s the point in one?

Just like Obamacare the government will force you to not only purchase a Smart Phone but to have it on your person at all times. They will have random checks, like the drunk driving checkpoints, to ensure you are in compliance.

Spot on. And Arnold turned out to be a Rino working for the libs. Don't ever trust Democrat politicians, or Rinos who are turncoats.

In San Francisco, local democrat "leaders" were trying to tear down oil/gas burning power plants in neighborhoods, for the environment because we need "clean" energy. State PUC put a stop to that, because state law requires ability to generate local emergency power during a disaster where outside power is cut. The city is fighting against environmentalists who want to tear down Hetch Hetchy dam in Yosemite, SF gets water and power from there; SF broke the lease on Hetch Hetchy by selling power generation to PG&E who profits from it.(Lease stipulates SF is to use/maintain it and not outsource control for profit). There are contradictions and hypocrisy everywhere with these Democrat politicians, all to the detriment of the citizens they're supposed to serve. Higher taxes, lower services, unfair utilization of resources, it's all sickening.

Sounds unconstitutional to me. If they were going to institute something like this, the first thing that needs to happen is a COMPLETE accounting of the money that’s already being collected for “road repair” & investigating how much of it is being used for other purposes. Secondly,if there is to be a mileage tax, then the tax on gas should be eliminated completely & the mileage tax collected would by law be required to be utilized for road repair/building only. Looks like it would be very complicated to compute with people driving in & out of the state & out-of-state drivers.

How can they tell if you are the driver or a passenger or are they charging everyone with a smartphone? So everyone without a smartphone gets off without paying the tax? I would just leave my phone home.
