There’s an old tradition, possibly American in origin, possibly not, about Crèche Nativity scenes. That is, the characters can be very ornate, even gilded and jeweled, but the “stable” they are in is to be cheap and ugly.
In past I have seen Crèche with hand carved, beautiful figures that must have been quite expensive, but the stable was just two crude pine branches supporting cheap cardboard with bits of hay glued to it.
In any event, is anyone else familiar with this tradition?
