When sexual harassment allegations surfaced last week against U.S. Sen. Al Franken, Abby Honold was shaken.
Franken, who had written a bill with Honold to help rape victims like herself, was now himself the focus of misconduct allegations. Honold decided she needed a different sponsor, fearing that legislation with Franken’s name attached could be doomed.
“I was not willing to sacrifice the future of the bill and have it associated in any way with someone accused of something like that,” Honold said.
But when Honold’s decision made national headlines, and she wrote an editorial in the Washington Post to explain her actions, some Franken supporters turned on her, accusing her of overreacting and throwing a supportive politician under the bus.
Even after three more allegations have come out against Franken, including two more on Wednesday night, Honold said she is still getting hateful messages.
“There isn’t much that’s more upsetting as a rape survivor than someone telling you or implying that you should be raped again,” Honold said.

If we can get rid of protecting Congress-critters from sexual accusations by non-disclosure bribes funded by taxpayers, that would be good.

How about a bill which toughens penalties for rape...but ALSO includes a mandatory, 5 year minimum sentence for any woman proven to have LIED about a rape allegation?

At first I put the young lady that ‘blew the whistle’ on Franken as probably having waited to long but at least she had the common sense to save the photos...Linda Tripp must have ‘trained’ her as I still believe that without the dress, Monica L would have made another area of DC famous for a corpse turning up.
However, I changed my mind about her when noticing that FRANKEN had been a lead cheerleader about ‘morality’, sexual responsibility and good actions in life.
Also with Franken his were about 10 years ago and the ‘excuse’ was made that was before he was a Senator and he was ‘younger’.
Shame that Moore wasn’t given the same latitude.
