The ROK troops were stationed in a coastal province, think it was Phu Yen, the home of the hardcore VC forces (IV Corps), so if they caught their own fish, this might explain an flukes or other parasites they could have gotten into their systems.
Stories like this need a helluva lot more explanation and data or it will just be another “scare, fundraising ploy” by the left.
I had some rice wine that would taken the paint off your car and killed everything inside of me. Or, my parasites would have been so drunk they couldn’t hurt anyone, ever. Pickled parasites - never thought of it that way.
Best thing was to drink bottled water, rice wine, or soda. Got amoebic dysentery once from drinking jungle water in Guatemala. Forget about the Aztec Two Step.
I was doing the Mayan 4 Step Miler to the latrine in a monsoon downpour and ran so fast, with my knees closed together, that the raindrops missed me.
We should appreciate our safe water in the U.S.
“Seriously these guys are in their 80s”
I firmly believe that those high pressure injections are partly responsible Hep C. Transmitted from arm to arm mixing bodily fluids.
I think the ROK’s were all over, my primary camp was Nha Trang, where I believe it was their White Horse Division. What a feared kick ass bunch. They also had a MI unit at Nha Trang. In my travels, I found them in a couple other places in Nam too with elements of the ROK air force.
I can’t imagine the VA conducting a study in South Korea. They’d use home grown outfits like they do for Agent Orange and other wartime diseases. To me, the story is bogus.
” got it as a result of their own misconduct,”
The VA will use “Will full misconduct” as an excuse to deny a claim. I’m speaking from actual experience.
All should be tested for this. Medics in particular who came in contact with this blood in Vietnam. Especially those who administered/received direct transfusions...
80’s? Not alot of them. Hubby will be turning 67 in January and he was in Nam. Since most of the soldiers were more or less just out of high school there are a ton of guys who are not in their 80’s.
My buddies were in early as “advisors”
I am damn near 60 and missed Vietnam all for the better but I adore the South Vietnamese people and their food.
Writing a story about how food is killing Soldiers all these years later is a joke..
Next they will be saying Cinnimon rolls killed guys on submarines, maybe the VA can do a STUDY on “Bug juice”
You get my drift and hat tip to your hubby
BTW those 44 Submariners in Argentina.
Forget it.
But I place that squarely on their crappy Gov
They were to cheap to pay for maintenance on a submarine
But we fed em good LOL
Those boys ran out of oxygen
Or they got swamped ventilating in a sea state 4
The whole story stinks.
Was they on a top secret mission out of beunos aires that precluded them from running on the surface?
Pardon all my sarcasm
I went through 2 weeks of that
Are you an internal medicine specialist by chance?
Sea of Ohotsk
No sir but I met in the militery and he was a hack
Seriously? 50 Years plus our VA is blaming vietnamese food? LOL
Who whines about dinner 50 years later?
The internal medicine specialist I had in the military saved my life. Regret yours was incompetent.
Have they done the thanksgiving story about how being fed 50 years ago led to our demise?

Glad you got good care
