The Girl Scouts of the USA has issued an odd warning to parents for the upcoming holidays, cautioning them to not force their daughters to give relatives hugs or kisses, and to offer instead the alternative of less personal kinds of touching.

I would never let a daughter or son join the Girl or Boy Scouts. Two former solid organizations have completely fallen apart due to the influx of liberalism.

I agree with this. I didn’t want to hug or kiss some of my nasty relatives when I was young.

The left started the “me too” crap. Various hysterical airheads took it as a signal to “find” and report sexual harassment wherever they couldn’t find it. The new meme was “all men are predators”. So any and all interactions with men had to be retrofitted into that meme.
What’s next? The French air kiss when greeting women that you know? Will random women refuse to share an elevator with you? Will all the hystericals report men who greet them with “you look nice”?

I can understand the awkwardness but shouldn’t a parent help determine that rather than an organization with an obvious bias? What happens if an elected left-wing kook from congress stated this? I think this is overreach. Just an opinion.

My pet peeve is the cookies. I recently found out they only get 3% of the proceeds from the cookie sale. 30 cents from a $10 box of cookies is wrong. These girls work themselves like rented mules for this fund raising activity and it’s for nothing. I’d just rather give them the $10 as a donation, then they get to keep all of it.

sadly though many parents will allow their kids to join- IF enough parents had pulled their kids out of the boyscouts when they adopted the gay scouts agenda- it could have crippled the organization and sent a powerful message to leave our kids alone- yet sadly not enough parents even cared-
I have no use for the national body but local scout officials are not all in lock step with them. It is best to investigate them on your own.
That aside. No child should be forced to display any physical affection he or she is not comfortable with. No matter who wants that affection. Children have a right to bodily autonomy with certain exceptions such as medical care (Obviously the degree to which it can be exercised will not be the same as an adult’s) . This is not an invented right but a natural right of every human person. Children do not lose that right just because a relative wants a hug. Adults should understand when children are not comfortable with physical affection. A child should be told to be polite about it. Yes feelings may get hurt but there are other ways to show affection to loved ones.
This is not just an issue of respecting a child’s wishes but it is a way to protect them against sexual abuse. If a child has been conditioned to believe that unwanted touching by an adult must be tolerated it is that much easier for a molester to groom a child to go from innocent touching to sexual contact. Remember most abusers are a trusted authority figure or “friend’ who a child already knows. So giving the child a means by which to set limits is a good thing.
I for one am getting sick of the “me too” crap. When I was a teenager working in a law office (I’m in my mid 50’s now)one of the lawyers grabbed me in the crotch area so I beat him over the head with the books I was carrying. Sure, I could go to the media now and name him but I don’t see the point in destroying his life and embarrassing him for something that happened decades ago. Besides, I think I handled it ok. I did eventually quit the job.
My question is, I was just 16 years old and handled it better than the grown women complaining now. Why on earth didn’t any of them fight back?
