Oklahoma Democrats win state Senate seat in red-district special election (Trump won by 40 points)

Democrats in Oklahoma picked up a key state Senate seat in a Tuesday special election, marking the fourth seat Democrats have gained in special elections in the state this year.

The Tulsa World reports Democrat Allison Ikley-Freeman won a close race over Republican Brian O’Hara in Oklahoma’s Senate District 37. The race was held to fill the seat of Republican Dan Newberry, who was leaving the state Senate.

Ikley-Freeman, a 26-year-old lesbian, defeated O’Hara by 31 votes.

"The odds were not in our favor, and we knew it, but we knew if we could fight hard, we had a chance," Ikley-Freeman told NBC News. "It was worth fighting for."

The normally conservative district, which is in Tulsa County and is part of Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District, was won by President Trump by nearly 40 points in the 2016 presidential election. Trump picked up 61.4 percent of the vote in the district compared to 32.7 won by then-Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Ikley-Freeman’s victory comes a week after Democrats saw victories across the country, including sweeping statewide elections in Virginia and winning the New Jersey governor’s race.

I think it would be dangerous to ignore these races. I didn't put a big emphasis on the VA Gov race because Trump didn't even win that state, but I think local districts which were Republican that have swung to the left like this are a warning sign. Obama was feeling pretty good and on top of the world when he got elected. He had a majority in the House and Senate and seats across the country, but over the course of his Presidency, he lost over 1,000 seats. That should have been a warning sign to the Democrats.

Republicans are killing themselves in 2 areas:

1. They are a circular firing squad. They are so busy running to the MSM to virtue signal and throw fellow Republicans/Trump under the bus and not busy returning fire. They should all be on offense. The Dems would be when it comes to investigations. Republicans should be looking into the emails, Comey, the dossier, uranium one, the election rigging, etc.

Instead, we have them propping up the Russia probe, embarrassing Trump by not letting him make recess appointments, passing sanctions he had no choice but to sign, and fools like Corker attacking him publicly and working on a plan to take the nuclear decision that every President gets away from Trump.

2. They are getting nothing done. Seven years, and they are in chaos. Bills should have been drafted and ready to go when Trump came into office. Instead, they were too busy tossing Trump under the bus during the campaign and preparing to object to Hillary that they got nothing prepared. Now they are too busy REFUSING to implement Trump's agenda - one that was a winning agenda.

I also think Trump's people need a better comm's plan. It is so frustrating to see the media lies and hypocrisy pointed out on social media by Trump's supporters BUT not by the White House. Instead of just calling the news "fake", every time they get something wrong, document and Tweet it out. If there is past video that proves them wrong, put little videos together showing it. Show the Newsbusters charts documenting their biased coverage. If they did this with everything over the past year, people would see the media isn't just called "fake" because we don't like what they are saying but because of inaccuracies and abject bias.

Finally, Trump's people should put up a list of all Trump has done so far and keep adding to it. (I don't believe there is one out there, but correct me if I'm wrong.) Liberals often say he has done nothing (which isn't true of course) because they only watch liberal media which portrays it as such. If supporters had a handy thing to link to when engaging with liberals, that would be great.

Yup. It’s all over now. Trump may as well go ahead and resign. NOT!

So the GOPe never-Trumpers want to lose to Democrats so that they will win congress and be able to vote to impeach President Trump.

It’s not over, but it’s not smart to ignore and downplay this stuff. That’s what the Democrats did. This is a deep red seat. We shouldn’t have lost it.

Yes. That way they can say “We told you so” and put an end to any future outsider nosing their way into the private club.

The same thing happened in SC the day we won the hotly contested Georgia race...the SC Congressional district was solid-red, yet we won it by like 1%

Bottom line: In BOTH CASES, the difference was that the Dems managed to get 10% of their people out to vote (or proxy-voted for them), and we got 5% out. In other words, no one bothered to tell Republican voters there was an election going on.

Don’t get me wrong, it still sucks to lose, but if the Republicans weren’t so hell-bent on destroying Trump and now Moore, they might figure out that there are other races going one - something, I guess, only the DEMOCRATS are aware of.

Meh, off year elections usually means lower turnouts. If dems are going to have a chance, it’s usually in off-year elections in states like mine.

Yeah, that was concerning too. The Dem almost won. These liberals are very motivated, very, and we have to find out why our people aren’t voting if that’s the problem. If people are switching, why?

Losing 4 seats in red Oklahoma - this seat in a district Trump won by 40 points, is a warning sign.

That doesn’t explain how Trump won the district by 40 points, though.

Oklahoma is really the reddest state there is with every county usually voting for the Republican Presidential candidate.

I’m finding fault with the Senate, the House passes bills, the President will sign them. The Senate is the one that holds things up.

>These liberals are very motivated, very, and we have to find out why our people aren’t voting if that’s the problem.

People aren’t voting because we’re getting our butts kicked in DC. Trump is under a massive investigation while “Locker her up” Hillary is free as a bird. We’re not winning and people feel defeated. Trump’s doing amazing things behind the scenes but without any obvious victories, people have lost faith. Nothing is getting passed and the GOP congress is openly traitorous against Trump and Trump’s not punishing them.

Trump needs to fire Sessions and start locking people up for their crimes.

The Republicans need to do something meaningful about immigration, about the deep national debt.

The shell game they are playing with taxes doesn’t cut it.

President Trump is good as far as he goes.

But the rest of the GOP infrastructure stinks and reeks and is fake and phony as far as conservatism is concerned.

They expect us to cheer “tax reform” and kiss their backsides while they trash and destroy Roy Moore.

You gotta be kidding me.

The Senate is our biggest problem. Trump has some fantastic allies in the House. Some in the Senate are deliberately working against him like McCain, Corker, etc.

Thanks - I’ll have to check that out.

However, the White House themselves should have a page where people can see all of Trump’s accomplishments with links where people can click to see more info on specific things.
