A new study for the journal of the American Geophysical Union, Earths Future, looked at global annual temperature records from 1861 to 2005 which indicated there were 17 record hot years over that period.
Then experts examined whether or not those temperature records were being broken more frequently and if so, whether humans were to blame for that rise.
The findings show human influence has greatly increased the likelihood of record-breaking hot years occurring on a global scale.
Without human-caused climate change, there should only have been an average of seven record hot years from 1861 to 2005, not 17.
Further, human-caused climate change at least doubled the odds of having a record-breaking hot year from 1926 to 1945 and from 1967 onwards, according to the new study.
The scientists predict that if greenhouse gas emissions continue at high levels, the chance of experiencing new global temperature records will continue to increase.
Experts predict that by 2100, on average, every other year will break records.
Andrew Goebbels, a climate extremes research fellow at the University of Melbourne in Australia and lead author of the new study, said the new findings show how climate change is visibly influencing Earths temperature.
He said: We can now specifically say climate change is increasing the chance of observing a new temperature record each year.
Its important to point out we shouldnt be seeing these records if human activity werent contributing to global warming.

All bogus until they stop using adjusted data. It is not scientifically valid to adjust the data then say the data supports a conclusion. That data has been adjusted to support the conclusion.
Non-adjusted data records show no warming and that the hottest period was in the 1930’s long before man made influences could have been involved.
Without human-caused climate change, there should only have been an average of seven record hot years from 1861 to 2005, not 17.
Now why did they leave out the Medieval Warming Period when the Vikings colonized and FARMED GREENLAND, currently under ICE!!!
I think they earth is about to perish, and its only hope of survival is that humans pick up the pace on anthropological climate change.
We need more coal factories. Less recycling. Higher emissions engines.
Together we can up our game and pull the planet back from the brink of destruction.
The Proof is always Top Secret and they never tell you
All land based measurements are grossly inaccurate and invalid.
The only measurements that are valid is the satellite data from NASA - which shows no change for over 15 years.
ROTFL. It depends on what you definition of “scientist” is. Environmental activists are not scientists. They let their politics and greed override scientific fact.
I have a masters degree in math and have taken three
statistics courses in college from multiple departments. The assertion: “Without human-caused climate change, there should only have been an average of seven record hot years from 1861 to 2005, not 17.” is complete nonsense on several levels.
Andrew Goebbels, a climate extremes research fellow...
Full self-parody status for the man-made climate change cabal now attained.
Where's the expanation for the gap between 1945 and 1967? Are we expected to assume humankind took some sort of a break from releasing CO2 for a couple of decades?
These anti-science morons mainly are seeking to steal more grant money. Criminal frauds .
These scientists also say the planet is billions of years old, which makes their 150 years of “annual temperature records” a statistically insignificant sample size.
Can’t have it both ways, boys.
“Andrew Goebbels, a climate extremes research fellow at the University of Melbourne in Australia and lead author of the new study...”
Unfortunate name ya got there, Mate!
How many record hot years were there during the advent of the Roman Warm Period, or the Medieval Warm Period?
Don't disregard the elephant in the Solar System.
Odds are that slot machine will pay off big soon. Just you watch.
Yup. All indications are we are entering a new mini ice age
