A new study for the journal of the American Geophysical Union, Earth’s Future, looked at global annual temperature records from 1861 to 2005 which indicated there were 17 record hot years over that period.
Then experts examined whether or not those temperature records were being broken more frequently and if so, whether humans were to blame for that rise.
The findings show human influence has greatly increased the likelihood of record-breaking hot years occurring on a global scale.
Without human-caused climate change, there should only have been an average of seven record hot years from 1861 to 2005, not 17.
Further, human-caused climate change at least doubled the odds of having a record-breaking hot year from 1926 to 1945 and from 1967 onwards, according to the new study.
The scientists predict that if greenhouse gas emissions continue at high levels, the chance of experiencing new global temperature records will continue to increase.
Experts predict that by 2100, on average, every other year will break records.
Andrew Goebbels, a climate extremes research fellow at the University of Melbourne in Australia and lead author of the new study, said the new findings show how climate change is visibly influencing Earth’s temperature.
He said: “We can now specifically say climate change is increasing the chance of observing a new temperature record each year.
“It’s important to point out we shouldn’t be seeing these records if human activity weren’t contributing to global warming.”

Whatever they say after all the tampering of data, the inconsistency in the statistics, and just weakness in the fundamental hypothesis, is absolutely worthless.
In the end, year after year of just walking outside everyday proves that nothing is amiss.
This isn’t a scientific study.
This is a result that a paper was written to validate.
Does it even take into account the increased frequency of observations, changed instrumentation, potential of natural variability?
I doesn’t seem so, from the way the study is worded.
For example, how did the differentiate between manmade climate change and natural climate change?
This is hilarious. There ‘SHOULD’ have been only seven hot years? Based on what?
And the lead scientist’s name is Goebbels? You can’t make this up.
Also, we were measuring global temperatures in 1861? How can any logical person believe this stuff.

They always seem to use a start date for their data at the end of the Little Ice Age. We do have records that go back much earlier than that.
IOW, give us more money to further study this so we can say “Probably”..................
If one is looking for record high global temperatures, it helps a lot if you get your ocean-related data from thermometers on boiler intake pipes of commercial ships instead of just the weather buoys that were designed for that task.
That whole spiel isn’t worth the ink it took to write it...................
