The Senate campaign arm of the Republican Party on Friday severed ties with Roy Moore, one day after the Washington Post reported that Moore had sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl and pursued inappropriate relationships with several other teenagers while he was a district attorney in his 30s.
As the Daily Beast first reported, a joint fundraising committee supporting Moores election bid and the Republican Party filed paperwork Friday morning dropping the National Republican Senatorial Committee from its list of beneficiaries. The Alabama Republican Party and the Republican National Committee remain linked to the campaign.
Moore has strongly denied the allegations, calling them a the very definition of fake news and intentional defamation.
After supporting incumbent Luther Strange in the Sept. 26 special primary, the NRSC initially threw its weight behind Moore in the general election against Democrat Doug Jones.
Our focus is always on keeping a strong Republican majority in the Senate, and that includes Alabama, NRSC chairman Cory Gardner said in a statement at the time. Roy Moore will be imperative to passing a conservative agenda, and we support him in keeping this seat in Republican hands.
But Gardner changed his tune after the allegations against Moore became public, saying he should drop out of the election if they proved true. The committees decision to sever ties indicates theyve heard enough to withdraw their support.
Alabama Republicans, meanwhile, have closed ranks around their candidate, with many claiming the allegations were a Democratic conspiracy, others diminishing their significance, and some even saying theyd still support Moore even if the allegations of sexual abuse were true.
I would vote for Judge Moore because I wouldnt want to vote for Doug, Bibb County chairman Jerry Pow told Daniel Dale of the Toronto Star. Im not saying I support what he did.
McConnell’s personal fiefdom.
McConnell’s personal fiefdom.
I’m surprised they waited 24 hours.
Yes, that is what I was thinking
Circle the swamp.
Definitely a setup by the elites.
Go to Roy’s site and donate.
As a Jewess on the US, I can only point out that the number of women who allegedly DATED, but had no sex with, Roy Moore is EXACTLY the same number who accused President Clinton of FORCIBLE RAPE, a FAR more serious offense. Now we know why all REAL Americans put our 2nd Amendment FIRST. Just sayin!
which is why we(Freepers) never EVER give money to the GOPe.
Moore doesn’t need them.
We can simply go to his website and donate.
This clearly demonstrates their loyalty, and willingness to let truth prevail! They ALL disgust me, and there is a place in hell awaiting them all!
no wonder the Senate cant pass healthcare or a tax bill or even a budget bill...
Mitchy has his hands full trying to maintain his fiefdom.
As a member of the GOP (and a major donator at one time) I demand the McConnell and McCain and resign immediately.
I’m just about to pull my support ffrom the Republican Party period.
This is about the time in the roadhouse movie where they kill wade garret.
Do you have a link to his website? I always worry about fake look-a-like websites.
(Im just about to pull my support from the Republican Party period.)
You mean you’re still thinking about it? $ is fungible. The GOP will always use your money to protect RINO’s and sink conservatives. That’s why we should send money directly to conservative candidates like Moore.
I stopped giving to the GOPe years ago. Only directly to candidates now...
Cowards. Not sure it matters. Moore is not running any ads funded by them that I’ve seen.
I will not send the Republican party a dime for this reason. I send my money straight to the candidate.
