The heroes of Sutherland Springs
NY Post ^ | November 6, 2017 | Rich Lowry

Before the Texas church shooter encountered any police officers, he was run off a highway and dead.

He had been shot and chased by two private citizens who took it upon themselves to respond to a heinous crime when no one with a badge was anywhere to be found.

The church shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, is another heart-breaking chapter in the country’s epidemic of mass shootings. Devin Patrick Kelley shot and killed 26 people and wounded another 20, accounting for nearly everyone in the small church.

Dressed in black tactical gear, he killed the pastor’s 14-year-old daughter and eight members of one family, including a pregnant mom and three of her children. The senseless cruelty is hard to fathom.

The response by the two by-standers who refused to stand by is something else entirely. It was a characteristically small-town American act of self-reliance that shows, no matter how tattered our civil society may be, it still produces people who will risk life and limb for others without hesitation, unbidden by anything other than their own sense of obligation.

When Stephen Willeford, 55, heard of the shooting, he left his house barefoot with his AR-15 and started exchanging fire with Kelley outside the church. An expert shot, Willeford hit Kelley and reportedly aimed for the gaps on his body armor.

When Kelley got in an SUV and sped off, Willeford jumped in Johnnie Langendorff’s truck and told him to give chase.

Langendorff, 27, didn’t ask any questions. He followed Kelley at 95 mph down the highway, until the perpetrator ran off the road into a ditch.

Willeford jumped out of the truck and rested his rifle on top of Langendorff’s hood and shouted for Kelley to “get out.” The murderer apparently took his own life with a gun shot.

The mainstream media will report this only because it is too big of a story to ignore. They will downplay its importance because it doesn't fit their agenda. But Americans in flyover country will know to chalk another one up to good guys with guns.

Kind of bugs me to hear it called “self reliance” because it isn’t, or shouldn’t be. That’s to pat ourselves on the back and step away from our true Power. It should be offering oneself to and standing on the all-sufficient God.

These mis-memes need to die a death. Whether it is horrible or not I don’t care, but they need to die. Glory is subtracted from that attributed to God.

“Willeford jumped out of the truck and rested his rifle on top of Langendorff’s hood and shouted for Kelley to ‘get out.’”

Willeford, in his interview with Crowder today, said that he knew that he (Willeford) had exactly two rounds left in his rifle at that point . . .

These guys are saying no bulletholes in the church.

Can someone disprove the hoax theory and give us a diagram of shooter entry, exit, body placement etc?

And with these AI fake personas here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFWcS1aNXZg and the ability of real time video to be manipulated, we FReepers need to be ultra aware of more Deep State hoaxes

Especially after FReepers figured out Charlottesville was a Deep State hoax with CNN hires pretending to be alt right racists.

When the media and the dems try to tell us that there is no reason for a private citizen to own an AR-15, Willeford should come immediately to mind. Would anyone have tried to go up against the shooter if they only had a handgun?

You’re overthinking this. It was self reliance in the sense that they didn’t wait around for someone else to take responsibility to end the rampage.
Self reliant men can be tools of God.

Some sources had Willeford using a shotgun, lot’s of confusion. A 5.56mm will slice through most “soft” body armor at ranges under 100 yards - especially a greenie. The plate, if he had one, is another matter.

Another point the left tries to push, that government is the solution rather than the problem, also takes a big hit when it turns out that the shooter should have failed a background check and been denied the right to buy his weapons only the air force didn’t enter the fact that he went to prison for cracking his son’s skull into the database. When the firearms store ran the background check he came up clean. Oops.

wish theyd also mention Hurricane Katrina...law enforcement quit and total break down in law and order...plus, the LA riots, same thing, cops just up and took off...civil unrest, more than justifies owning an AR 15. Cops could care less, they’ve got their asses covered.

His truck turned off the road into a mown hay field, not a ditch, as proven by pictures. ...Idiot media!

Osh(etc.)... You’re right about most Americans supporting the good guys with guns!

The above link to youtube is Crowder’s interview.

Willeford obviously knows his way around guns (NRA instructor) - but even he said that at 20 yards with a rifle and an Eotech(?) sight - it wasn't an expert shot. He DID say that if he had grabbed a pistol it might have turned out with him being dead instead.

Crowder talked about how this emphasizes what he has said before - getting a firearm to as many good people out there as possible. Even with a little bit of shooting experience and skills they can be an imposing force on bad guys.

Willeford said he thinks it was the Holy Spirit that made him aware and focus on the gap in the body armor. Something like: “I don't think I would have thought of that on my own!”

In the interview, Willeford said the pickup driver estimated it was 5 to 7 minutes for the first cop car to arrive. Willeford said it seemed a lot longer than that.

When the cop arrived he shouted over his P.A. system “Driver - get out of the car with your hands up!” Willeford put down his rifle, got his hands up and started backing away.”

The cop yelled at him “Not YOU! Get back on your rifle!!”

It was just the one cop at the time, so he wanted the backup!

“The murderer apparently took his own life with a gun shot.”

I wonder if they aren’t trying to protect the hero. Willeford said the car ran off the road and everything was quiet. No movement inside, etc. I suppose the nut case could have shot himself in the head while still driving, or in the few seconds it would have taken Willeford to get near. But I’m guessing he died of his injuries during the earlier gun fight. Willeford said he shot through the windows of the SUV two or three times, aiming where the killer’s head would have been.

Whatever. The crazy punk is dead, as our a lot of young and old of a tiny congregation. So sad in reading the names and stories of the people. And so encouraging - I’ve been to several small town churches - filled mostly with very old people. The folks killed were all ages, and lots of young families with lots of little kids.

“...he died of his injuries [incurred] during the earlier gun fight.”

Pretty sure he didn’t die earlier and then drive several miles.

Chances are if you had just something like a revolver and it was say a .38 you would have likely died if the shooter still had his AR, he had a front and rear ballistic vest plus a tactical helmet.
I am so glad i keep my M1A ready with two loaded mags, just in case.
