WASHINGTON Republicans have a lot riding on tax reform including campaign contributions.
The failure by the GOP-led government to score a significant legislative victory in the year since President Trump was elected has caused some Republican donors to close their wallets.
Ive just reached my breaking point with it, said Dan Eberhart, CEO of Canary LLC, an oilfield services company. Do something for goodness sakes.
In protest, hes stopped sending donations to the National Republican Senate Committee the main fundraising campaign for Senate Republicans. Instead hes been meeting with Steve Bannon, Trumps former chief strategist, about courting GOP primary challengers to blow up the establishment of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
But even Eberhart acknowledges theres one situation where he could abandon Bannons scorched earth approach: passage of tax reform.

The GOPe is afraid of these mega-donors, the media, and what Mitt Romney called the 47% who vote, but pay no federal income taxes. They will not simply reduce tax rates across the board, but instead propose complicated, confusing, half-baked legislation that various coalitions can hide behind. Same thing happened with Obamacare "repeal".
That is all the GOP understands, money, it is their god.
Change title to:
GOP’s voters threaten to vote against them if repeal of Obamacare AND tax reform are not passed.
GOPs big donors threaten to close wallets if tax reform isnt passed
Well bye.
Never in my life have I seen the GOP fight harder to pull defeat from the jaws of victory and that is saying something
IMHO, the only way to fix the Senate is to elect more pro-Trump Senators.
We need to “turn” as many Democrat seats as possible — without losing any.
That will give us the votes we patriots need to kill the filibuster and to kill other arcane “rules” that have sapped all urgency regarding voting in the Senate.
I’m not really interested in the GOP’s “tax reform”.
The GOP has to go.
They are not who they said they are.
When will we have a conservatism that benefits conservatives instead of the corporats. The same people who are helping the Democrats flood the country with Democrat voting cheap labor.
OK folks, McConnell managed to have confirmation votes on 5 of President Trumps judicial nominees LAST WEEK. Now who are the 5 nominees hes going to push through THIS WEEK? Or does he mistakenly think well be satisfied with last weeks effort being a one-off?
I say pass what they can RIGHT NOW! and then, after the 2018 elections, we may very well have a Republican Congress, and THEY can pass REAL tax reform.
I know the fake news media keeps saying we already have a Republican Congress, but we all can see right through that lie.
Not one Republican GOPe leader I can think of is a conservtive. THEY ARE ALL RINOs at best, mostly NWO Socialists, wait that’s redundent.
“Paul Ryan’s plan looks good for business.”
Business or large corporations? When they last made a deal with Obama on the budget, all they did was get a tax break for business and nothing for income nor social issues such as funding planned parenthood.
We have a party for big business and a party for big government.
The gop wing of the uniparty would rather be in the minority. Not responsible for leading, but still able to collect their share of the loot.
Politics is a scam.
I will not be disappointed if this legislation fails.
And, the GOP deserves all the bad things that will happen as a result.
I know Trump hitched his wagon to these rotten bastards to get NEEDED relief for corporations, but this constraint they put on themselves (reconciliation with 51 votes) ensures a piece of sh!t of a tax bill.
Everyone on the left will blame Trump. I hope he goes public and destroys the Congressional GOP and their foolishness.
This is ALL on McConnell and the Senate GOP.
ALL OF IT.
“IMHO, the only way to fix the Senate is to elect more pro-Trump Senators.”
This POS tax bill ensures that will not happen.
They squandered the chance of a lifetime. I don’t think we’ve had 60 Republican Senators and a Republican POTUS in the last 100 years.
And it’s apparent it won’t happen any time soon.
“does he mistakenly think well be satisfied with last weeks effort being a one-off?”
That’s what he’s thinking.
The Chamber of Commerce allowed that to proceed in exchange for the tax bill.
“and then, after the 2018 elections”
With this tax bill, after the 2018 elections we’ll have lost 30 House members and barely hold the Senate.
