Common Core Rape-Themed Assignment for Biology Confuses Parents
PJ Media ^ | 11/04/2017 | Megan Fox

A 9th-grade assignment at a Mississippi high school is causing concern and disgust among parents. A mother recently posted her student's assignment to Facebook in a special group that was created for the growing discontent parents feel toward public school education — "Inappropriate Common Core Lessons." This particular assignment asked 14-year-old students to determine the identity of a fictional rapist based on sperm DNA.

Not surprisingly, parents were not amused. The mother who posted the assignment reported that the teacher did not require the students to complete it — and parents were grateful for that — but she was still disturbed by the content in the "teaching" material. Common Core has long been hated by parents and teachers alike, not only for its inappropriate content but for the convoluted math techniques that serve only to frustrate students and parents.

Along with hard-to-understand math problems, the Common Core tests have included strange product advertising noticed by students.

According to Phillips, the Common Core-aligned tests — which were taken last week by third, fourth and fifth graders — contained misleading questions, subjective reading passages and even product placement..."There were product placements (i.e., Nike, Barbie) woven through some exams,” wrote a group of NYC principals in a statement.

Other parents have reported inappropriate questions directed at 9-year-olds about dating and other adult topics. Let's not forget the "Daddy is cheating on Mommy" reading comprehension exercise.

More and more states are dropping out of the Common Core standards as time goes on. Just recently, Kansas decided to pitch it.

“Common Core Rape-Themed Assignment for Biology Confuses Parents”

Yea, I guess I could see how this might confuse parents.

Wow, that really points to a rigorous genetics curriculum.

A reasonable question based on those drawings would be, “Which two groups of lines are the same?”

Amazing how the questions invites the reader to automatically assume that any sperm left at the crime scene must belong to a rapist, and labels the sperm-owner as a felon already... so much for innocent until proven guilty, or for for rape victims who have other male lovers in their lives.

Ding! That was the right question ro ask.
Always remember that the commom core author in the area “X” most probably had average grades of C or less in that area.
Which is why the only publishing they do is ...common core.
Not always, of course, but not a bad guess to feel that way.
Run from common core as fast as possible.

The answer is obviously Suspect #1. The genetic code is identical to that of the Felon.
However, the same lesson of how to compare genetic codes could have been done without making schoolchildren think about being raped or committing a rape during their school day.

This diversion was gratuitous and deliberate.
Not every topic in the academic curriculum needs to be ‘sexed up’ to inspire kids to study. Most do not at that age.

It wasn’t rape-rape. It was merely a gang initiation. Besides, Suzy was a ho and asked for it.

The other question where Ruby found a hairclip. Either hubby is having an affair, Ruby’s best friend is evil and planted it to be found, hubby is having a Kaitlyn Jenner midlife crisis, Ruby got some baaad stuff from her dealer or a female grey alien dropped it.

It’s no wonder kids are so messed up these days. Thanks, Obama.

I keep hearing about how kids are being taught at such a high level. This is less taxing then the match game I played in first grade.

And this is supposedly in seventh grade?

9th grade, according to the article. The question could have read, “Suzy found some papers with lines on them in the trash can. Which two sets of lines are the same?”

On the Civil Service Clerk-Typist exam of 30 years ago, one compared patterns like this, with a very short time allowance. It tested visual acuity and quick pattern recognition, useful skills in filing.

A book I read recently said that students today, compared to students 20 years ago: have lower SAT scores; have smaller vocabularies; have less math computation skill; spend less time doing homework; spend less time in paid work; spend less time on household tasks; have lower grammar skills; are less successful in tests of general knowledge.

And on and on and on. I just read that they’ve redesigned the SAT to make it easier, because just adding points to the results failed to disguise the decline in learning.

Good point. There’s a fluster in our local middle school because a boy was menaced with a knife and is now being threatened with additional harm by the perp, who was suspended for 5 days. The perp is the son of a teacher. Parents on local social media are in a tizzy.

Along with being able to sing the alphabet song. :)

Yeah - teach them to hunt down rapists by sperm DNA and forget they can’t read cursive or make change w/o a cash register telling them how much to give back to the customer....

Those issues you describe are why I support some kind of national standards for testing, though Common Core was a disastrous attempt. What I see with my children is that unless they are in some kind of honors program (whether they should be or not), students are just written off in the same manner that “slow” children were 30 years ago - no education provided at all, just show up, play for a few hours, get fed, then go home. Grades are meaningless, especially as teachers offer extra credit for participating in canned food drives, for example. With hundreds of school districts, every NJ town (except the urban dumps) claims the best school system, and every parent thinks their children is a genius; grade inflation is rampant as teachers try to justify huge salaries for 180 six-hour workdays. My children describe teachers in the fall (each fall) openly criticizing their teachers from the prior year for failing to teach certain concepts in math, science, etc. - in other words, teachers themselves are calling it all a hoax.

That dishonesty with grades can only be exposed when the parents of these little geniuses learn that in fact they score horribly when compared to their peers in other states.
