Congressman Says Jeff Sessions Has Recused Himself on Uranium One Deal

Attorney General Jeff Sessions told a small group of lawmakers in late September he was recused from appointing a special counsel to look into potential corruption surrounding the Uranium One deal and Fusion GPS’s work on the Trump dossier, according to one of the lawmakers present.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) told Breitbart News on Wednesday that he and other House Judiciary Committee Republicans had met with Sessions at the Justice Department on September 28 in advance of an upcoming committee hearing with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein later this month.

Gaetz said that when he asked Sessions to appoint a special counsel to investigate the 2010 Uranium One deal and Fusion GPS, the attorney general stood up, said he could not discuss the matter because he had recused himself, and walked out of the room, leaving them with a group of Rosenstein staffers “who showed no interest.”

“He said that anything that had to do with 2016 election, or Russia, or the candidates in the 2016 election, fell under the scope of his recusal, and he left the room,” Gaetz said.

I am thinking now that Jeff Sessions is complicit in the dealings with Russia and the Uranium deal and may very well have benefited from some dealings here.

I thought that Sessions was a man of honor but now I am convinced that he is a coward hiding behind a recusal that he never should have made and could reverse at any time he so chose.

What a putz. Fire him.

You guys are totally missing the whole point TRUMP is at fault here as all he has to do is ask for his Sessions resignation...The question should be WHY hasn’t Trump done so? He is always crying for a SP for the Clinton business and the solution is at his fingertips..!

I really feel someone has something on Sessions. Wonder if Trump would ask for his resignation who would run the Justice dept until someone is appointed and approved?

Sessions is looking more and more like a swamp plant

I agree and said it the day he was picked that he would do everything he could to protect his "friends" in congress.

He is doing a damn good job of it. He is part of President Trump's problems and should be FIRED.....

Sessions is a decent guy but he just makes for a crappy AG. He’s simply not cut out for it. Trump needs a tiger in that position and not a putty cat.

Why doesn’t he just resign ,,, what a pussy ,,, perhaps he should switch parties .

It’s time to jettison Sessions and appoint a real hard-nosed Attorney general. Trump’s survival may depend on it.

If the Uranium One deal dates back to 2010, I'm wondering if anyone could even be prosecuted anyway since the statutes of limitations on most Federal crimes would have expired by now.

This is one of the rare cases where it might be better if Congress just investigates it as a political matter and prepares a report listing any the crimes that WERE committed but could not be prosecuted due to the statutes of limitations.

So Sessions isn’t running DOJ. Rosenstein is. I’m sure that Rosenstein will do the right thing as regards a special counsel and recusing himself. /sarc

Trump, quit listening to your idiot son-in-law and replace Sessions!

Sessions is no dc swamp monster but he has been as ineffective at this job as humanly possible. He was a bold senator who took strong positions and fought for a lot of things important to us. In this role he just got rolled by the professional media and politicians. He either has to figure out how to appoint some good people in top positions to do this work or resign and let there be a do-over. His recusal without consulting the president was the low point of the presidency so far. A disasterous turn of events.

And you're going to get someone else appointed as AG, how?

AG Sessions is getting a lot done on other issues. If he hadn't recused himself from "Russia, Russia, Russia" NeverTrumpers would've kept him occupied 24/7 on that show.

Is there anything that stops the HOR and/or US Senate from setting up an investigation of the dirty dealings of Obama and hillary?

“Sessions really does need to go.”

Absolutely agree. He has essentially recused himself from his job as AG. If you can't perform in the capacity for which you were appointed, you remain as only a figurehead. He should resign. It would be the honorable thing to do.

Gaetz said that when he asked Sessions to appoint a special counsel to investigate the 2010 Uranium One deal and Fusion GPS, the attorney general stood up, said he could not discuss the matter because he had recused himself, and walked out of the room ...

Fusion GPS had nothing to do with the 2010 Uranium One deal. Sessions correctly stated that he couldn't discuss the matter because Fusion GPS is front and center in the investigation that IS absolutely relevant to his recusal.

WHO is Sessions working for?

Working? WORKING!?

What work? All he does is put himself on fully paid leave.
