Bill O'Reilly told Newsmax TV on Thursday that the controversy surrounding President Donald Trump's remarks to a Gold Star widow "looks to me to be a set-up" by Florida Democratic Rep. Frederica Wilson.
"The thing that disturbs me is Congresswoman Wilson," O'Reilly told host John Bachman on "Newsmax Now" in an interview. "They were given a 24-hour day.
"The family of the fallen Army Sgt. [La David] Johnson, who was a Green Beret, was given 24-hour notice that President Trump would call.
"They gave that information to Congresswoman Wilson, who is an anti-Trump hater and has been from the jump," O'Reilly said. "Also, she voted against all of the bills that would help the military.
"She knew the call was coming in, she was in the car when President Trump reached the widow, Myeshia Johnson, 24 years old," he told Bachman.
"Then, she goes out on CNN and says, 'The president insulted Mrs. Johnson, made her cry.'
"This looks to me to be a set up," O'Reilly concluded. "It really does."
He noted Wilson, a four-term representative, had told reporters she only heard a portion of the call between Mrs. Johnson and Trump.
"That's impossible," he told Bachman. "If you were on a speakerphone in a car with the widow, which you were, you would have had to have heard the whole call."
O'Reilly said he was not surprised White House chief of staff John Kelly or press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders would say President Trump's condolences were respectful.
"But I believe that you are innocent until proven guilty," he said. "And, I know Donald Trump.
"I know he respects military people, so why on earth would a sitting president call a widow — just lost her husband in Niger — and insult her?
"It's impossible. It's inconceivable.
"Now, a choice or words or something like that, OK," he added, "but that's picayune."
O'Reilly said the negative coverage reflected the media's continuing efforts to "denigrate Mr. Trump.
"Nobody knows what was said. The press does not know.
"The press doesn't know — and, yet, you turn it on the television set, it's the worst kind of hatred," he said.
"This is what a continuation of what the American people have to deal with from the press.
"They're taking Ms. Wilson's word for it," O'Reilly told Bachman. "They're not taking Gen. Kelly's word for it, who says there wasn't anything inappropriate.
"They're taking Wilson's. Why? Because they hate Trump.
"Everybody knows what the game is."
Evident that Wilson is a racist to the core.
I thought they mentioned his mother....but read that she died when he was five and that he was raised by an aunt.

Wilson took offense to non offensive words and likely kept jabbering on how insulting they sounded (to her) and a grieving woman, as the widow is, likely burst into tears more than she would have.

She was NOT in a car.
She was in (her?) home.
She was calm & coherent the whole call.
Trump did NOT (IIRC) say anything like “he knew the risk”.
Admittedly, Trump did not say the husband’s name. While she might have appreciated the President stating her late husband’s name, fact was they both knew who they were talking about, and some people (myself included) are more prone to using pronouns than proper nouns.
So Wilson is a liar and a vengeful bitch, libeling the initiator of a very sensitive & polite phone call.

Yes and it has blown up in Rodeo Clown’s face - she just said she will never do this again. Lesson given; lesson learned.
The widow was probably party to the set-up. If she harbored resentment about her husband being sent to that hell-hole in Africa and being killed there I can actually understand her wanting to hit back though it would not likely have been a calculated thing. The rep and she are friends so she called the rep who might have said hey, let’s put him in his place.

Impossible? Not necessarily. Perhaps the widow gets a call on her cell and talks for a bit before placing it on speakerphone mode. I believe it was a limo and not the widow's private car.
OK, apparently I’m confused. The video I saw wasn’t the wife in question.
HOWEVER, what I did see brings great doubt to Wilson’s claims. The call was sensitive & appropriate; unlikely that Trump would treat one call radically different from another. If he _did_ say to wit “he knew the risk”, that can be appropriate (as Kelly detailed). Not saying the decedent’s name, when the conversation is completely about him, is understandable (though Trump may do well to make a point of stating the name at least once, some people find this important).
He was not a green beret, but he was support assigned to 3rd group. The media keeps on being confused.

yes cars have speaker phone built in at least our 2015 Hyundai sonata does when a call comes in it shuts down the radio an speakerphone comes on...POTUS record all calls made on his phone in the oval office.
understand most of the govt is not a friend both parties hate him....protect yourself at all costs...
