The Department of Defense took over the distribution of hurricane relief from government officials in Puerto Rico this weekend after local mayors failed to appropriately disperse the emergency items to the territorys 78 municipalities, The Miami Herald reported Sunday.
According to The Herald, food, water, and medical supplies were previously delivered to 10 regional staging sites in Puerto Rico, but the mayors did not coordinate properly to distribute the large containers of relief at the staging sites.
Instead, 10 to 20 soldiers will be posted in every municipality with vehicles and logistical support, where they will deliver relief to every neighborhood.
We need to push it directly to the barrio to ensure that everyones getting it, Brig. Gen. Jose J. Reyes, assistant adjutant general of the Puerto Rico National Guard said. They will have some vehicles. They will have radio communications as well as logistics support
. They are going to be living there. They are going to be operating 24/7.

Did the mayors have a plan, of was the plan to wait on Uncle Sam?
Maybe the mayors’ plan was to sell supplies to the highest bidders.
Pathetic! This is what you get when you have Dems in charge.
Or be like Venezuela, and ensure that supplies only go to neighborhoods which reliably demonstrate support for the Establishment.
Democrats are probably behind this. They want to make Trump look bad.
See how compassionate the left is?
How long before the Democrats complain that Trump is using the hurricane as an excuse for an invasion and occupation force?
My guess is that it's doubtful, but one can dream . . .
The PR’s have proven they cannot rule themselves...the Army will do the job that their democrat leaders are too corrupt to do.
This is what you should expect from just every single island in the Caribbean. It’s a third-world zone and they can’t run things like this. I’ve known Puerto Ricans while in the military, and they all vouch that once you leave the island and experience the real world, you don’t come back.
The US should write up an exit plan....give them two billion in cash, and declare it a non-US territory. If you don’t....the next hurricane that comes through....you might as well appoint some general in charge for six months and by-pass the politicians.
It took this long to realize that PR’s weren’t going to help themselves?
They could give Muslims lessons in ingratitude.
I would argue the mayors lacked the authority, the wherewithall, to get volunteers to do the mental and physical work necessary to do the job. The mayors couldn’t force a disorganized populace to act in a functional manner.
It happens in all such disasters. Most locals just plain lack the organizational capability to function
The mayors’ plan was to benefit themselves by graft and corruption. Trump’s plan is to distribute the food.
Should’ve been Trump’s first move.
Put the Army or Army Guard in charge...
So far the Oath Keepers have been the only help and first people these villages have seen in 2 weeks!!
It should be Puerto Ricans doing this work. Damn...pi**** me off.
Same cr** "victims" of Katrina pulled.
The Bill and Hillary Clinton Haitian disaster relief plan and they have been following it since day one
The Clinton Haiti plan
1- Engineer a humanitarian disaster
2- Appropriate a massive multi billion disaster relief bill in Congress with no spending controls and mechanism to audit
Steal the country blind while it's people wallow in misery and starve
You make a good point! But I’m still betting corruption.
