CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago Police touted a drop in September gun violence at a press conference Sunday morning, even as the weekend saw at least 31 people shot in the city, four fatally.

This September saw 57 deaths that were ruled homicides, with 488 shooting deaths this year ruled homicides, according to data kept by the Chicago Sun-Times. That total accounts for a 2.6 percent drop from last year’s 501 shooting homicides through September.
In all, the city has recorded at least 524 homicides so far in 2017, including shootings, assaults and other types of incidents, Sun-Times data shows. Chicago suffered one of its bloodiest years in two decades in 2016, with more than 4,300 gunshot victims and nearly 800 total homicides.

Every time I head to Chicago, I get calls from LEO friends in the area offering me weapons to carry. I usually decline, because Illinois doesn’t reciprocate my CC license from Florida. And, I did say usually.....

Strategy: Allow murderous gang bangers to roam the streets killing at will. Eventually you reduce the population of murderers. Result: 2.6% reduction in murders.
This could be why we keep the border open. As the population of murderers decreases, more need to be imported.
Eventually the herd of thugs is reduced enough to limit the targets.

I go to the city 2-4 times a week to see clients. I carry my firearm on my person every single time. What’s surprising is the lack of “no guns” signs in the large downtown office buildings.
And even if there is one I routinely ignore it. All they can do is ask me to leave. And that hasn’t happened because concealed means concealed.

I guess the image of Chicago as a gun-unfriendly just can’t be purged from people’s minds, despite the McDonald decision in 2010 by SCOTUS. I try to point it out whenever I encounter this incorrect information and some just can’t accept the reality you describe of lawful carry is possible. The only thing keeping the image going now is that IL will not accept out of state licenses. If that political hurdle is ever overcome, IL could actually be like every other place.
I would imagine ATF targeted street gangs.
