Schumer Asks Trump to 'Break from the NRA...And Work With Us'

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) told a news conference on Tuesday he's sent a letter to President Trump, asking for a meeting to discuss gun control.

"I have requested of the President to call us together, Democrats and Republicans, to come up with a reasonable solution. Before he was a candidate and marched in lockstep to the NRA, Donald Trump expressed a very reasonable position on gun control," Schumer said.

Schumer described the National Rifle Association, a group that supports Americans' constitutional right to keep and bear arms, as a swamp:

"Look, this is, I mean, this is the swamp. A small, powerful lobby that represents a vast minority, a very small minority of Americans, seems to have a stranglehold on the Republican Party. And, that shouldn't be.

Schumer will probably over-reach and not get the ban on attachments that boost a gun's fire power. So again, DC swampthings will accomplish nothing.

What I've stated before is the worst threat is that there's legislation that has "mental health" provisions for gun ownership. Do we really want whomever is in power in DC to get to decide who's crazy, and to be able to give psych evaluations to anyone who wants to own a gun?

Here's a "reasonable position" on gun control:

" A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

We already have some 30,000 legislated infringements of the RKBA on the books. A reasonable person would start eliminating them. Chuck Schumer is not a reasonable person.
