There were 762 murders in Chicago in 2016, the most in 19 years. On average, there was mass killing – by different perps – that adds up bigger than the Las Vegas massacre each month. Where is the wall-to-wall coverage?
Chicago has very strict gun laws, with no gun shops in Chicago. The Chicago police and politicians know where the criminals, gangs, and guns are, so why don't they get them off the street? We see more effort to restrain the cops instead of restraining the criminals. In Chicago and elsewhere, we repeatedly see killings and other serious crimes committed by illegals and legal citizens with long criminal records. What we have is a catch-and-release program instead of a system that protects the public. We have more concern for the criminals than either the cops or the victims.
Where is the outrage on the nighttime news and the late-night "comedy" shows about the mass killings each month in Chicago? Where was the demand for a discussion during Obama's eight years as to why the strict laws weren't working?

Many mass killings throughout the world occurred in gun-free zones. Why weren't the people safe?
The Nazis took away the guns. Did that make it safer for the citizens, or did millions die at the hands of the tyrant socialists who took away the guns?

In the meantime, I have some friends from the burbs of Chicago calling for a ban on ALL firearms. When I pointed out the issues in Chicago, I was told it is not as bad as we hear.
They claim we must be like Australia.
I just shake my head at how ignorant they want to be.
It might be interesting to suggest a ban on shooting people.
Might also be interesting to inquire as to how a ban on firearms would be enforced.
In their minds, a full blown confiscation would be the solution.

I have been shooting since I was in grade school under the supervision of my grandfather. When I turned 13 I was allowed to have my own weapon (22 long rifle bolt action) in my room and the ammunition. With a 4 power cheap Weaver Scope I was hell on rabbits.
The concept of using a weapon in an illegal manner was totally foreign to the way I was brought up. The concept of using a weapon for defense is what my grandfather taught me and for hunting. That was just the way it was!
I am 69 years of age now and none of my weapons have been used to harm a human. I collect them and have many as I see them as part of history and I do kill a lot of paper targets. I no longer hunt with the exception of vermin. The joy of killing things left some years ago. I have no problem with hunters and my friend takes deer on my land and shares the venison. It tastes great!
If the sad day ever comes that an individual wishes to harm my family, myself or my dogs they go immediately into the class of vermin.
To show how times have changed, Circa 1966 Lockport, Louisiana; often we would have shotguns in our pickups. A few of us would hunt after school. The principal knew and the cops knew because they could see the shotguns in the gun rack in the pickups. This was just normal back then. The only threat we were was to rabbits and ducks.
Today we would be have a SWAT SQUAD arrest us. Times have sadly changed for the worse.
Chicago is run by a criminal mob why would they put their street soldiers in jail?

On the rhetorical front, it seems to me that the calls for "gun control" in the wake of the Las Vegas massacre amount to a euphemism for a total ban of some kind. Because logically, we have lots of "gun control" already.
