On Tuesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) said he is for a ban on semi-automatic rifles.
Co-host Willie Geist asked, “How could this have been prevented? Is there a law? Congressman Himes ultimately said yes, he’d be for a ban on semi-automatic rifles like the AR-15. How about you?”
Murphy answered, “Absolutely. Let’s just be clear that the pace of these epic mass shootings, 10 or more people being killed, doubled after the Assault Weapons Ban expired. That’s not a coincidence. I think we also have to look at these aftermarket modifications that [allow] you, fairly easily, to turn an automatic weapon — turn a semi-automatic weapon into an automatic weapon. … We have to get back to the evergreen changes, things like universal background checks, that frankly, probably would have stopped many of the other murders around the country that happened on Sunday before the shooting started in Las Vegas.”
Geist followed up, “So, just to be specific, ban bump stocks and ban semi-automatic rifles. Are you for those two things?”
Murphy answered, “I’m for both of those two things.”

Calls for confiscation have been there all along. The same as calls for impeachment. Nothing new.
So fully auto will be accepted?
I’m for a ban on communists in public office.
I will donate money to organizations that will lobby for it.

My 10-22 is an Assault Weapon now?
Then why do criminals still kill each other in Chicago? Sounds pretty unenforceable to me. Kind of like banning liquor, which was run by the same appeal to emotions, and produced a greater mess than what the government was trying to protect people from.
You underestimate him by at least 50%.
Even a so-called “assault weapon” ban would not satisfy them now. Next they will go after “sniper rifles”.

Yes. A bolt action .380 is more deadly than a semi auto.
By the way, I heard a poll cited on the news that showed that the majority of Americans support background checks on gun purchases. I wonder, this time around, if any of the the 2nd Amendment supporters on the TV panels will ever get around to informing the discussion that we already have background checks, when their opponents jack them up for “opposing” background checks. Heretofore, they refuse to reveal that. I have never been able to figure that one out.
