This is the guy whom Dems are hoping will pull an inside straight and bump off Mr. Social Conservative in … Alabama.
It was thoughtful of him to go all-in on late-term abortion this early in the campaign. Now the DSCC and other major left-wing groups can save their money instead of wasting it. Alas, the poor deluded grassroots progressive donors probably won’t be deterred.
I am a firm believer that a woman should have the freedom to choose what happens to her own body, and Im going to stand up for that and Im going to make sure that that continues to happen, Jones said…
You wouldnt be in favor of legislation that said ban abortion after 20 weeks, or something like that? Todd asked.
No, Im not in favor of anything that is going to infringe on a womans right and her freedom to choose, Jones said. Thats just the position that Ive had for many years, its the position I continue to have.
He opposes the Hyde Amendment barring public funding of abortion too. This must be a matter of deep fanaticism, er, political conviction for him, as it’s bananas to take the most extreme possible pro-abortion line in Alabama. And it’s doubly bananas when Democrats are planning to portray Moore as extreme on social issues himself. The first time Doug Jones claims Moore is “out of the mainstream,” guess what Moore’s going to say back.
Here’s where I remind you that solid majorities support banning abortion after 20 weeks. Not in Alabama. Nationally. Earlier this year Marist found 59 percent support for the 20-week ban; late last year a Susan B. Anthony List election day poll found 64 percent support, including 78 percent among millennials(!). Americans dislike the idea of late-term abortions in general: When Gallup polled that in 2013, they found Americans backed keeping abortion legal during the first trimester, 61/31, but strongly opposed its legality during the second trimester, 27/64. By the third trimester, when Doug Jones would still be waving pregnant women through the doors of Planned Parenthood, support for legal abortion drops to 14/80. Again, this is across the entire United States, not one of the reddest states in the country.
The irony is that Democratic leaders are keenly aware they have a problem between the coasts with appearing too radical on social issues. None other than Nancy Pelosi pushed back at progressives a few months ago when they ditched a Dem mayoral candidate in Omaha for being pro-life, insisting that the Democratic tent is big enough to include people who oppose abortion. Now here’s a pick-up opportunity in Alabama, a longshot but not quite a no-shot given Moore’s failure in gubernatorial primaries in the past, and they’re running a guy who’s right in step with the most pro-abortion voices on the left. For the GOP, it’s better to be lucky than good.
No, Im not in favor of anything that is going to infringe on a womans right and her freedom to [kill her unborn child], Jones said.
Fixed!
This is the guy that Moore is running against?
This guy is an idiot.
Moores opponent is shoo in to win....here in California.
In Alabama, not so much a shoo in.
At least this fool is making this easy.
Anyone who imagines that the Moore election will be a cakewalk is utterly deluded. The media will focus on the most ‘extremist’ views 24/7 to try to knock him off, and there will be significant pressure by the GOP to walk back some of those statements ‘to make him look more mainstream.’
Yet, time and time again, mainstream opinion is that these are murders of children.
While I doubt Moore himself will walk back statements, there will be members of his team who will quietly assure people he really doesn’t mean what he says. Eject them now. They’re almost as poisonous to the campaign as the 24/7 finger of shame from the media.
Has Jones announced that he is for dishonoring the American flag yet?
That would help solidify his base.
. . . and he is Pro-death before that.
Just don’t do a Todd Akin and he’ll win. He’ll re-up in 2020.
Racist.
He just lost the election.
That’s what all liberals believe..that a baby is NOT a baby until he/she is born, otherwise they have no problem killing him/her, its how they justify cold blooded murder
About four months ago I had a grandson born three months premature. I looked in his eyes, and he looked at me. This Dem is evil.
Why limit to an after birth? If the kid is going to be inconvenient, allow ‘Mom’ to snuff him in the crib. That would be real pro choice...
A fetus is not a part of the mother's reproductive system. A fetus is SOMEONE ELSE'S body. The mother chose what happened to her own body when she consented to unprotected sex.
Buddy, Alabama ain’t California.
It IS a very conservative state.
The Turdle threw 30 million to take
down Moore. All it did was drive voters
to Moore.
The same will happen when the RATs
throw money at Moore.
Go clutch a teddy bear.
Exactly.
Once there is no clearly defined, ‘line’ between Right and Wrong, Good and Evil, Life and Death, that line gets moved.
A lot. :(
Indeed, it was quite thoughtful of this douche to go all-in on late term abortion. Roy Moore should send him a thank you card.
I have 2 nephews and a niece, all born pre-term. It is said that they can’t focus their eyes when they’re that young, etc., but I looked in their eyes and they held my gaze.
3 months early, huh? What a teeny little guy he must’ve been! I hope he has gained weight and is doing well.
