It was obvious that they were not long for L.A. when they couldn’t even fill up a 30,000-seat soccer stadium.
What they really need is a new field goal kicker.
There was a stadium proposal in San Diego, for a stadium which would have cost well over a billion.
For unknown reasons, NFL stadiums cost over a billion nowadays.
So your question about $500 million relocation fee, and could it have gone to build a stadium, answer is it would have been just a down payment considering what stadiums cost nowadays.
LA is just not a football town.
That’s why the Chargers left, The Rams left, The Raiders left.
The Chargers and Rams came back, but LA hasn’t changed.
The Raiders are moving to Las Vegas, getting out of Oakland.
The 49ers has so few show up at their games the cameras won’t show the crowds.
Perhaps it’s CALIFORNIA is really not a football state...............
Unions are why the costs are out of control. In Chicago kickbacks to the Machine is also mandatory.
LOL!....and apparently no one noticed when they came back!...............
Moving to a city where you have no fan base is optimistic, to say the least.
Oakland should not have allowed the Raiders to stick around for 1 or 2 years. Combined with the Chargers problems the NFL would get it’s just desserts. And to think Goddell is getting re-upped.
Raiders are still playing in a baseball park in Oakland.
Complete with infield outlines when they play at home.
They wanted in the new 49’ers stadium but were turned down.
Too bad because they are the only California NFL team that can be counted on to draw a crowd.
The New York Giants and Jets financed a big chunk of the new MetLife Stadium through personal seat license (PSL) sales, and within a few years they had a disaster on their hands. Jets fans had it worse because the team has been so terrible, and many of them made a calculated decision to simply default on their remaining PSL payments and dare the team to sue them for the outstanding balance. Many of them ended up buying single-game tickets on the secondary market for a lot less than the face value of the tickets. Go figure.
Not so fast...
Yes, but it's the type of crowd they draw that's the problem!...............
San Diego fans should tell em to stick it.
Good point. Raiders fans are the only ones I know dedicated enough to drive from Oakland to Santa Clara for a football game.
After last night's game, they may wanna re-think that................
And the way the Giants have started this season, their fans may do something similar.
Thanks much for the correction my FRiend.
Every Charger fan knew the team would implode in LA. The game last week at the StubHub Soccer Stadium that only seats 30M had at least 25% of the fans in attendance supporting Miami. Wait till this Sunday. I predict at least 50% of the fans will be KC fans. The same will happen with the Broncos. And the Raiders, it will be 90%+ Raider fans in the Charger Stadium. Hell, it was about 75% Raider fans at Qualcomm (old Charger SD home) last year.
Spanos has killed his franchise. Best thing for everyone would be for Spanos to sell the team and let a real owner rebuild the franchise back in SD in a stadium the new owner and NFL pays for. SD voters have shown time after time that they will not be extorted by NFL billionaires to use taxpayer money to fund a stadium. Build it yourself NFL, or let the Charger franchise die in LA.
This is just a harbinger of the decline of the NFL. Spoiled millionaire players that can’t perform on the field except to do celebrations or protests. Coaches that can’t coach. Players that can’t block, tackle, catch or throw passes. Announcers and networks that sermonize liberal talking points constantly. Owners that rape fans and taxpayers constantly. I’ve been an NFL fan for almost 50 years, but the last few years I could care less and would rather watch college games. At least those kids and coaches show some love for the game.
