Seas given as significant wave height, which is the average height of the highest 1/3 of the waves. Individual waves may be more than twice the significant wave height.
So when seas are predicted at 35 ft. (current predicted maximum for Maria), one could get individual waves at...
Just wow.
Scott Peake, on TWC, live from Frederiksted, St. Croix, (western edge), windows bowing, ears popping, he’s retreated to an interior room on the second floor.
Jose and Maria. What happened to K and L?
Katia drifted away into Mexico. Lee dissolved.
It looks like the Eye Wall Replacement Cycle is incompletely happening.
The outer eyewall (125 mph?) is not whole and neither is the inner eyewall (168 ?). I don’t see one feeding into the other or one dropping away as I have seen in other hurricanes.
The outer eyewall is hitting the west end of St Croix but it looks like the inner eyewall will miss. It looks like the NWS-NHC prediction of Frederiksted at 121 MPH will be accurate.
Where are you seeing this
You guys are scaring me — are we going to be talking about Yolanda five weeks from now?
Katia formed off the coast of Mexico when Irma was bearing down on Cuba. Lee was a tropical storm for a short while in the mid Atlantic while Maria was spoiling up.
Katia was the storm that hit Mexico while our attention was on Irma. Lee is still (barely) out there SE of Maria.
You do most things differently. Most will not have generators. My home has been off grid for 4 years.(not by choice --$$) All is workable. Just need to not go emotionally crazy n accept n understand how to handle challenges. So few westerners will be prepared if (heaven forbid) EMP becomes a reality
Looks like they may have to adjust the forecast a bit to the west now. I’d be a lot more nervous if I lived in the Dominican Republic right now.
No Yolanda. The last 2017 name is Whitney, then Greek alphabet names if necessary.
Chose water vapor view so that the forecast points in red would be most visible.
For those awake as morning approaches on PR here is a weather station.
Station YABP4 - 9754228 - Yabucoa Harbor, PR is on the southeast shore of PR. It shows its data in Atlantic STANDARD Time. That is the same as EDT.
Be sure the data is reset to English instead of Metric or you will have to convert Meters per Sec to MPH

Thank you
I’m in Central Time Zone tonight so I am going to sleep.
I do feel it is necessary to speak of Prayers. There are a lot of those needed tonight. I will make mine. Join me if you can. Thank you.
