Crews arranged by Dallas officials removed a statue of Robert E. Lee from a pedestal Thursday and carted it away from a park named for the Confederate general.

In an unannounced move, a large crane was brought through the city by a police escort to Lee Park, where it lifted the large statue from its pedestal late Thursday afternoon.

City officials said in a statement that an art conservator monitored the proper handling of the statue, and police tactical officers with automatic rifles provided security.

The statue was lowered onto a flatbed trailer for transport to an abandoned naval air station owned by the city on its western outskirts. It’s expected to remain there until city officials decide the statue’s future. …

Same here.

I wonder what my dad is thinking?

He must be rolling in his grave.

not actually pardoned. He was granted amnesty under President Johnson’s amnesty program. His application for amnesty was endorsed by General Grant.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the statue in 1936

Why are Democrats today so unhinged?

You are dead-on.

This is how is starts.

Find something that *seems* “indefensible” [OMG, how can *anyone* support slavery?!?] even though this has NOTHING to do with slavery, at all.

There’s the foot in the door.
Your *apparent* “moral high ground” is established.
Anyone who opposes your lofty, righteous cause is instantly a monster.

Seize the inch that sets precedence for the miles to come.

Few will argue that slavery was terrible and so those statues come down.
[though Haley started this crap with her flag capitulation]

When you’ve won on the ‘Confederate slavery’ front, expand to anything having any connection, no matter how tenuous.

Jefferson.
Washington.
Francis Scott Key and the anthem.
The stars and stripes, which “flew over slavery” for *much* longer than the stars and bars ever did.
It seeps and creeps like slime mold, until it rots the very fabric of the foundations of the country.

Throw in a little of the ubiquitous Republicans are Nazis crap.
Engage every trigger word or phrase you can.
Stir up the malcontents, whose government handouts *still* aren’t enough and the idiot white guilters who insanely believe that if they “join the cause”, they’ll be eaten last.

It’s brilliant, really.

Insidious.
Pernicious.
Fiendish.
But brilliant.

And so many of us sat here like blinking idiots and didn’t cut it off at the knees, in the first place.

And, so, here we are... and barring something as radical as CW II [doubt that] it will *never* get any better.

The rot has spread too far.

I feel like saying “Toldja so” but that would be cold comfort, now.

For decades, I prayed that I would be wrong, as this is not a good thing be right about, at all.

:\

When were they ever not?

But my theory is that God is at work through Trump and nothing howls louder than demons who fear being cast into the outer darkness.

YMMV.

Hell no one even knew about it. I damn sure did not know. I have friends in the area and they were on the look out for this to happen and we had a communication string that was set up. Nothing. I think this was pretty much on the hush.

Veteran’s Day is coming up. President Trump should schedule a prime time speech to address this absolutely ridiculous denigration of our American history. It must stop now.

I partially agree. The part I do not agree with is the waiting. He should have jumped smooth right in the middle of it. The embers are burning and these race baiting skulking liberals are fanning the embers. Just a matter of time.

“So much for Texas ‘not putting up’ with this crap.”

I’m guessing that most Texans aren’t happy about this. But, the statue is inside the Dallas city limits proper and the statue is the property of the city of Dallas.. And, the city of Dallas is a Blue enclave with a democrat mayor. So, sadly not much those outside of the city can do about it.

I had seen the story on the news that the city council was going to discuss the issue but I don't remember seeing a story that this was decided. Sad day.

As a Texan I am ashamed.....too busy with work and life and not paying attention. This sh*t needs to stop.

“Why, once every last statue of a white boy is gone, blacks will all be happy, healthy, productive, and finally able to live the lives denied them by the tyranny of history and art.”

Yes, that’s certainly what these anti-monument people are implying - meanwhile, this excuses them from any efforts to improve the situation of actual, real-life black people.

In my town, a black minister (from out of town!) is leading the campaign to take down an inoffensive local monument to the Confederate dead, which has no Confederate symbols on it but instead merely a list of the dead (all names of local families still living here).

Meanwhile, the “other side of the tracks” area, mostly but not all black, has appallingly substandard housing, is not on the city sewer system, is filled with unsanitary, poorly maintained septic tanks, etc and really needs attention. Improving it would definitely improve the lives of lower income blacks. But actually doing something, like working out how to get funding for a massive sewer project, would take effort and not provide enough limelight for grandstanding.

Not to mention that it wouldn’t allow the minister to attack phantom enemies and rev up discord by implying that all the old families here are racists and that he is somehow their victim. He, by the way, is a successful, prosperous man who is married to a law professor at our major university.

There was also another story the last few days on the city trying to find the funds to pay the overtime for the police working the State Fair, but they found the money for this?

“BTW, I don’t believe there are police departments with automatic weapons, but semiautomatic weapons.”

Lots of police departments have Title II weapons, given to them by the federal government.

M-16s have mostly replaced the M-2 carbines and Thompsons in police armories.

They’re p*ssing on the graves of Hood’s Brigade and the rest of the brave Texans who fought and died for what they rightly saw as their country. You don’t see the UK - yet - tearing down memorials to the Jacobites who were seen as rebels against the English Crown.

Once again the minority DICTATES because the majority is afraid they'll riot.

Incidentally, that's why we had to put up with a foreign born usurper for eight years.
