Trump Team Prepping Aggressive Options for North Korea

by Carol E. Lee and Courtney Kube

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is readying a package of diplomatic and military moves against North Korea, including cyberattacks and increased surveillance and intelligence operations, after the nation's sixth and largest nuclear test, according to senior White House and Pentagon officials.

The U.S. may also propose a U.N. Security Council resolution mandating the inspection of ships arriving or leaving the reclusive state, the officials said. The expanded inspections would target vessels carrying missile parts and technology that North Korea exports as well as materials the country imports, a senior administration official said.

President Trump is also seriously considering adopting diplomatically risky sanctions on Chinese banks doing business with Pyongyang and upgrading missile defense systems in the region, administration officials said. In addition, the administration is not ruling out moving tactical nuclear weapons to South Korea should Seoul request them, a White House official said, though many consider such a move a nonstarter. It would break with nearly three decades of U.S. policy of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula.

A blockade is an act of war, in and of itself.

It might or might not head off further trouble. NK may have all it needs already to wreak all the havoc it has in mind.

So what does the ronery runt goon really want? Are any doors to better angels even left, or is raw power what he speaks? If the latter we might as well coordinate with South Korea to decapitate so as to replace with something better — in fact to unite Korea under the South government.

Three words: Rods From God.

If the US ever wanted to demonstrate having that ability then now’s the time.

At least in my opinion.

In two articles published online this week, Moscow analyst Aleksandr Nemets details the evidence many have assembled showing that Moscow is heavily involved in both the rocket program of North Korea and Pyongyang's "aggressive plans" to use it against other countries.

It is absolutely essential, he says, that South Korea, Japan and the United States understand that everything that is now brewing in the region is what Moscow or more precisely Putin wants" and not some rogue action by Kim Jong Un as many imagine.

In the first of these articles, Nemets traces the history of Russian deliveries of missiles to North Korea in recent decades and the ways in which, apparently with some Russian assistance, Pyongyang has modified them, and then offers three main conclusions:

Second, he continues, "even this primitive result would have been impossible without very intensive Russian assistance, especially in 2015-2016. Why did Moscow feel compelled to provide this? Obviously not for money. Beyond any doubt, Moscow's goal was the infliction of maximum harm on America."

Nemets argues that the North Korean actions happened precisely as Russian-American relations were deteriorating, when Moscow's expectations for a new deal with Donald Trump were replaced by a recognition that Washington was going to take a hard line against Russia for its interference in American elections and its aggression in Ukraine.

Lately I am having a suspicion that Russia juiced up NK's missile program. My question is whether Russia made a lot of money from it because three-way deal can be possible. Iran pays very large sum of money to Russia, which sends sample rocket components and Russian tourists(with specialty in rocket technology) to N. Korea, which would use them to speed up their missile program. N. Korea can have the power to terrorize her enemies and is ready to share their technology with Iran.

Russia has no ability to prop up N. Korea unlike China, but has the ability to cause royal pain to U.S., her allies, and China. Set E. Asia on fire and go on the quest of conquest in Eastern Europe.

Deep State is stupid on more levels than one.

Russia scientists reportedly have long been involved with their program, and of course China is primarily responsible.

China is aware of the Russian involvement and the question is if Xi and Trump can make a deal: The removal of the “unification” talk and acceptance of two countries with China guaranteeing the integrity of NK and US guaranteeing ROK.

However, this might take some time as a big faction in the Chinese Communist Party still is supporting NK, but it is changing. The Chinese do not want to be tricked by Russia again.

I am not sure the Russian involvement has been continuing without a break. If it were, it would not have taken 24 years to build a poor unreliable copy of 60’s Soviet rocket. It seems that, after initial involvement, they stayed away until recently.

this might take some time

I doubt that we have enough time to wait it out until they sort out their internal politics. Kim Jong-un probably feels that N. Korea can have a breakout in a year, and that is why he is making an all-out mad dash to the finish line. Before all players sort out their internal situation in order and present an unified front.

It is not wise to let China dictate the pace of process. Left on her pace, China would spend inordinate amount of time to figure out complicated ritual of backing down from their long-held position.

I can accept that reasoning. The Russian involvement is business, not politics.

Mother Russia is still sick and needs income. She has no exports worth a damn. Rocket technology and perhaps critical components are of quality and salable.

It can be argued that many of Putin’s actions including flying bombers close to various countries and the involvement in Syria are actually sales efforts to promote his only export products worth a damn.

Oh and by the way, the discussion here of a declaration of war and such fail to mention that the United Nations was engaged in battle with North Korea and the situation is under a cease fire that has existed for 60 years or so. I think ceremonial talks are presently ongoing at Panmunjom but don’t know for sure

“NK may have all it needs already to wreak all the havoc it has in mind.”..........

Using such would mean he has signed the death warrant of himself and a lot of additional people. “Little Fat Boy” has a huge ego problem and is currently enjoying his power to bring the world to their knees and he rattles his rockets. His days are numbered and they are not far off.

Both China and Russia have their own motivation to engage in brinkmanship by giving help to N. Korea using salami tactics. In such a case, a player(China) mapped out in advance how much help he would provide to his client (N. Korea) to achieve a desired effect. The problem occurs when somebody else(Russia) is also giving help to the same client. Then the client is getting more than the player planned, getting extra from another player. A nicely laid-out plan is now getting ruined.

Russia and China are allies in a general sense but they do have different priorities and needs.
