LAS VEGAS (AP) - A federal jury in Las Vegas has refused to convict four accused gunmen in a 2014 standoff with federal authorities near the Nevada ranch of anti-government figure Cliven Bundy.

In a verdict that stunned Bundy supporters, the jury on Tuesday acquitted Ricky Lovelien and Steven Stewart of all 10 charges against them.

You laid it out perfectly! We need to demilitarize virtually ALL Federal Agencies not having a direct involvement in law enforcement. Kate Steinle would be alive today if some errant asshole BLM agent had not left his gun in his car in SF. If she had been killed with one of my guns that had been taken out of my car I would expect to be in jail today awaiting trial. But isn’t it “strange” that we never hear about how this “agent” is being dealt with.

I think you are missing some pertinent facts about cattle being stolen and buried in mass graves and family members being threatened at gun point for disputed fees on land. There is a good deal of material about Harry Reed wanting them off the land and using strong arm methods. Its a mess.

“Even granting everything you said, is it a good idea to engage in armed standoffs with the feds when they come?”

That question was asked and answered at Concord and Lexington.

So this is our goal then?

“Their family owned the grazing rights before any “public land” was established. Should the law just give a thumbs up to negating prior contracts just because the government decides to grab some land and call it Federal property?”

And the “grab” was so that Harry Reid could give the land to the Chinks!

"OK, snarkiness noted."
"But should that be the response to every fee that is raised too high by the government?"

The Bundy's were contesting the government's actions in court when the government decided to steal the Bundy's cattle and drive them into bankruptcy thereby taking away their resources which were being used to contest the case in court. The govt didn't like the way the case was going and decided that sheer Federal power would work better for them - as it usually does. But in this case they met resistance and have so far lost on the ground and in the courts. What would you do when faced with the loss of your livelihood and then having your ability to contest the govt's wrongdoing in court stolen from you?

I am not certain about this, but I believe that “grazing fees” were never ever charged in the past 100 years or so that the ranchers have been using these wild, otherwise worthless, desert lands. In my opinion, these lands should be given to the ranchers who make use of them, or to the states. There is no reason whatsoever for the fed govt to own these lands. Let the people who use them have them!

Uranium mine proximity. Apparently the defense threatened to let that cat out of the bag.

The cattle rustlers were the government agents removing cattle. I think that’s who she was referring to.

Happens EVERY DAY to various business owners. Should they all mount armed protests?

What happened to the Bundys is not unique by a long shot. A football arena couldn't hold all the people the government has run out of business in one way or another. My father's business is one of them.

My question is this: As bad as it sucks, and as unjust as it is, are we calling for a shooting war against federal police every time a family's livelihood is threatened by the government?

The “grab” I was speaking of happened about a century ago.

You should try to keep up. This family has been there for decades. Fedzilla, lead by a wanna-be commando at the BLM went after them hard in an unjustified manner.

You’re deeply confused!

The surface rights to the land belong to the Bundy family.

The Fed Gov does not have legitimate ownership to any surface rights in any western range land, because it was already in private ownership when Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed.

That is the law of the land!

“There is no reason whatsoever for the fed govt to own these lands. Let the people who use them have them!”

All the Western States are “owned” largely by the Fed Gov, with Nevada being #1 @ 87% Federal land. Even California is 45% Fed, while Massoftwoshitts is something on the order of 3%. The whole “federal lands” issue stinks, these lands were these states “dowry” for admission to the union. Time for “divestiture” to start.
