PIP seems to have become a popular tool to the new generation middle managers for the purpose of a homogeneous team. That is, PIP has become an acceptable and common practice to get rid of the black horse employee that is typically high-skilled and highly productive, thus at odds with a team of mostly mediocre members (including the manager) and hard to terminate based on pure work performance.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: Only a FOOL plays by the rules in a game that is rigged against them.
I am 100% Northern European and when I was unemployed/in-between contracts for 6 months in 2014 until I started marking "hispanic" in my applications. After that magic mark of discriminatory preference it has been clear sailing for me ever since. My attitude is "prove it" because it is an absolute certainty that I have ancestors from Spain somewhere over the ages.
As I get older and face growing age discrimination I am thinking abut claiming "gay" as well for a double-diversity badge of employability. I never date at work so it would not be an issue for me there and, if I ever get caught out with a woman I will just say that she was a paid transvestite escort (that will probably earn me a pervert merit badge).
Face it, HR departments are just bureaucratic extensions of government that just want to fill their insane SJW government quotas and move on. They really don't want to dig too deep into whatever anyone claims since it is damn near impossible to refute anything.
Unjust “affirmative action” laws are the modern “Jim Crow” laws of the global establishment and deserve zero respect.

But OTOH, as Mr. Damore demonstrates, Google's corporate culture also represents an educational opportunity - they, more than anybody need to read, understand, and be able to articulate the Truth.

All the big companies are. One time I accidently took the wrong diversity training. Instead of the ‘Rah rah diversity is great’ BS for the standard employees I got the manager training. That training said (basically), “here is the specific formulas we use to discriminate against white males.”
