Anyone would freak in such a situation and try to escape.

Not necessarily. What happened before that video began? Did someone the individuals car which caused him to accelerate and panic? All these videos are just snippets for the time being. They all need to parsed together before the complete picture can be known.
As for me if I was in that situation, that gas pedal won't hit the floor fast enough. The sight of what happened to Reginald Denny should be enough of a lesson for anyone.
If I ever catch someone trying to burn my house down not only will I celibate if they die in the process, I’ll pull a gun to help that happen.

Lol — The video you posted shows his car being hit with a club by one of the BLM/AntFa protester as he’s driving down the street.
They will never prove intent. At most he gets convicted of manslaughter.
After the initial BS about it being a planned attack, I thought I would see a Video that looked like the ISIS guys mowing down people. When Ted Cruz, not knowing ANY facts, called it Terrorism, I took another look.
What I saw, and I could be mistaken, was the Driver of the Dodge not seeing the other Cars stopped in front of him, having the accident and panicking.
He put the Car in reverse fearing for his safety when surrounded by the Commies, trying to get away which is when he hit people.
Stupid, yes. Negligent, yes. Reacting in fear, most likely.
Intentionally trying to kill some Commies, don’t think so.

Having had several years of riot control training in the Army my one big takeaway was if you are in a riot, get out of there.

There is a very good chance he will be found not guilty in a trail using a fear of his life defense.
What is scary about that is the left will be geared up to start Rodney King type riots upon that event.

Nobody’s trying to excuse what he did, the question is what exactly he did. There’s a question of whether the current media characterization of his action is accurate. That remains to be resolved in the investigation. What we have now is the physical facts and a motive the media ascribed to them. We have no factual evidence that media characterization is true. So when you start talking about “what he did”, you may be involved in the legal definition of a begged question, namely assuming a fact that’s not in evidence.
Whether the deceased was killed while he was backing up isn’t necessarily relevant if his motive for driving into the crowd was malignant. In that event, it can be argued that it was a foreseeable consequence of his action.
Bottom line: let’s see if the facts match current beliefs, we definitely don’t have them at the moment.
