WEAVERVILLE, Calif. (Reuters) - Pollution from illegal marijuana farms deep in California's national forests is far worse than previously thought, and has turned thousands of acres into waste dumps so toxic that simply touching plants has landed law enforcement officers in the hospital.

As usual, the ‘experts’ didn’t have a clue as to what was really going on

Toxic chemicals in the forests is becoming a real problem.

And a serious one.

Strident enforcement against illegal grows is both possible and desirable.

This is a good place for Sessions and the drug warriors to get their jollies and do some good too.

But, IF a grow is legal in that state, HANDS OFF!

My family owned a rather large wholesale nursery on the Monterey Bay. I grew up in the industry and therefore consider a lot of what is in this article as creative journalism.

>and has turned thousands of acres into waste dumps so toxic that simply touching plants has landed law enforcement officers in the hospital.<

My own experience, which was extensive, in dealing with pesticides, herbicide, and fertilizers tells me this is BS. I’d like the author to cite specific instances where this occurred.

>Growers use fertilizers and pesticides long restricted or banned in the United States, including carbofuran and zinc phosphide.<

If these compounds have been long-restricted or banned, how are they obtained.

Many elements of this article don’t pass the sniff test.

There’s a lot of environmental fear being “hyped”.
Obviously, the ONLY solution is to legalize pot farms so that it can be properly “regulated” and TAXED.

oh it's a problem, and the ones minding the plantations are all illegals and there's no such thing as a legal pot farm on federal land

Once pot becomes legal it then becomes very important to crack down and eliminate the competition. Ruining the environment sounds like a good way to go after these “criminals”.

Our country is an embarrassing criminal enterprise led by the left.

If it is toxic enough to cause that sort of immediate damage to a human, it has probably already killed the plant it on which it was applied.

Common sense, once again, prevails.

I doubt anybody’s male parts are shriveling or fall off just by toughing the plants, but I wouldn’t be surprised tokers are getting far more pesticides on their dope than their tomato’s.

BS Story. Concur with your opinion.

Wiki
Bans
Carbofuran is banned in Canada and the European Union.
In 2008, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that it intends to ban carbofuran.[8] In December of that year, FMC Corp., the sole US manufacturer of carbofuran, announced that it had voluntarily requested that the United States Environmental Protection Agency cancel all but six of the previously allowed uses of that chemical as a pesticide. With this change, carbofuran usage in the US would be allowed only on maize, potatoes, pumpkins, sunflowers, pine seedlings and spinach grown for seed. However, in May 2009 EPA cancelled all food tolerances, an action which amounts to a de facto ban on its use on all crops grown for human consumption.

Wiki
Zinc phosphide (Zn3P2) is an inorganic chemical compound. It is a grey solid, although commercial samples are often dark or even black. It is used as a rodenticide.
(It is legal and used in a number of products.)
