Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has locked in this week's attempt to repeal Obamacare, by scheduling a vote on Tuesday to start debate on the legislation.
"The only way we'll have an opportunity to consider ideas is if senators have an opportunity to offer and debate them and that means kicking off debate, it means voting to proceed," McConnell, R-Ky., said Monday on the Senate floor. "And that will occur tomorrow."
The announcement comes as Republicans struggle to garner the 50 GOP votes needed to let them move onto the bill, and as the party debates how to replace Obamacare and how much of it to repeal.
The vote has been complicated by the absence of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who is home after surgery to remove a blood clot, and was later diagnosed with brain cancer.
There was no indication as of Monday that McCain will return for the vote.....

Just great - they are going to try and slam through ObamaCare Lite so they can claim they “did something.”
Bernie’s traveling this weekend?
To all Republicans running for re election in 2018....TOMORROW IS ELECTION DAY!!!
Man, I hope this becomes something. I’ve stopped getting my hopes up, though.
That’s exactly what’s going on.
Republicans aren’t worth spit. They’re no different than Democrats.
Nuke DC from orbit. They’ve had 6mo, and we see where their loyalties are.
We will see who prefers Obamacare. With the likes of Susan Collins this is going to be the best we can get. To damn many RINO’s.
Yep, they need to truly fix it, or let the 100% Obamacare fail. My prediction: sigh, they'll change a little bit here and there and let the press tell people how wonderful Obamacare was until the Republicans changed it. They never learn.
Yeah, I know. I did my part to "primary" McConnell out a couple of years ago, but it was not to be.
Problem is, only 1/3 of the US Senate runs for re-election every two years. That’s 2/3 of the US Senate that doesn’t have to even pretend to give a damn about voters.
Fox News also reported that McCain may get back in time to vote.
They don’t need every Republican senator to bring it to the floor for debate. Democrats will be voting also. Will all Democrats vote against just debating it? That seems like a losing proposition for them.
They are going to vote to repeal right McConnell? Repeal first get that passed. Then start from scratch to replace Obamacare. That’s what going to be happening tomorrow, McConnell, right?????
Sounds like it’s just a vote to “proceed” with debate. If so, the slimes will be able to say they voted “for”.
You’re shooting yourselves in the foot.
Was Obamacare ever debated?
Let’s have the debate. The senators can reserve the right to vote “NO”. What are they afraid of?
For years they have been droning on and voting “YES”. What is the problem now? Cowards... afraid to debate. Or is this possibly cutting into their vacation time?
Do they even know what they’re voting on? Straight repeal? Repeal and replace in two years? Repeal and replace with the House version of Trumpcare? Repeal and replace with the current Senate version of Trumpcare? Repeal and replace with yet another Senate version of Trumpcare? Which?
You know, you're right! Can't McConnell just "deem" the vote has passed?
