What he observes is totally true. White women in New York avoid making eye contact with black men. They don’t make eye contact with anyone in a crowd, and certainly NOT with a black man when alone. Frankly, they can be incredibly — sorry, I have no other word — bitchy. A given black man is 20 times more likely to murder her than a given white man. Is a white woman’s fear of black man a problem with white society or black society?
But I’m glad he wrote what he did: shove the issue back under white liberals’ noses.
Let’s face it: there’s a reason these Manhattanites who are so shocked and flabbergasted that red-staters don’t want to import more poverty because that’s sooooo racist live in tiny boxes in the sky that they pay $7,000 a month for, instead of a decent-sized home in a row-house for $1,200 a month. And why? Because they don’t want to live near blacks, Hispanics, etc.
Are they being racist? I don’t think so. But they are being outrageously more whatever it is they call racist when Trump voters act like they do when they call Trump voters racist.
Now there you have it! A crucial piece of information the author was missing that caused him to misinterpret the situation.
In the crowded streets of NYC its a dance. People signal that they will move left or right by a very small head movement, whoever signals first the other person jigs the other way. It's in their mutual interest not to collide. Groups get right of way and don't need to signal, two groups, one usually parts in the middle. AND, absent any signal, a gentlemen will give way to a lady or get a dirty look from same.
If white women are simply ignoring this guy, it appears that he is not seen as a potential threat. He should be celebrating this great step forward instead of whining about it.
The upshot of all of this is that white people are damned if we do and damned if we don't. Everything we do will be considered "racist" or a "dog-whistle" as far as the left is concerned. Are these women supposed to genuflect as he walks by? Enough already with this nonsense. I am all out of white guilt.
He’s using a common ploy to get white women: accuse them of ignoring him because he’s black and then they will fall all over themselves to prove they’re not racist. I’ve seen this strategy work way too many times. White women who fall prey to this gimmick should wise up.
I read an article about how people avoid crashing into each other on crowded sidewalks, and New Yorkers are apparently among the best at doing that. One reason is that they are aware of where they are and on the alert for “oncoming traffic,” and another reason is that they walk fast and maintain a fairly straight path, thus making their direction clear.
The idiot on a cellphone who is totally unaware, and either walks into people or makes them get out of the way, comes in both sexes and all colors and doesn’t even know that the person in front of her is a black male. It’s just general rudeness and has nothing to do with him - but this author is one of those unfortunate people who thinks it’s all about color and that other people really care about his color as much as he does.
Who looks at and acknowledges everyone they meet on a major city street, or anyone unless they meet someone they know? Really scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to find racism in this nonsense.
The key word in your true statement is ‘gentleman’.
This situation doesn’t point out racism, it points out that huge crowded cities are lousy places to live.
Who wants to live in a place where you have to keep your eyes down everywhere you go for fear of inciting an attack against yourself?
He didn’t notice the fact that some black males deliberately get in the way of people and won’t move? That some black males dance across the street in traffic defying you to hit them?

New York sidewalks are notoriously packed from side to side with people. When I am there I walk defensively.
I've lived in some major cities including NYC. I now live in SW Colorado in a very small town and will never go back to any "major city", ever!

I grew up in NYC, now live in FL having moved here from Louisiana. Don’t know where Howard is from but my suggestion is that he should perhaps go back there. I suggest also that he not move down here, since ambulatory navigation is culturally challenging for a lot of folks.

Now, if I ever see this guy, I will know to cross the street to avoid him. Just so he won’t have to experience racism from my unconscious expectation that he should step aside for me if we are approaching each other on the sidewalk.
Because there are *no* negative connotations about completely avoiding even getting near people.

And why do so many black men treat white women like they’re the prize of the universe? Are black women below them? Seems most every successful black man dumps black women and goes after white women. Seems like black women would take offense to that.
