290,000 gallons of water to be dumped after vandals breach Novato tank (CA)

The North Marin Water District says it is dumping close to 290,000 gallons of water out of an abundance of caution after someone broke into the water tank and possibly contaminated it.

Just before 6 p.m. Friday the alarm system at a North Marin Water District tank did exactly what it was designed to do, according to General Manager Drew Mcintyre.

"We immediately went up to the tank and noticed that somebody had cut through the chain link fence, cut the lock that gains access to the stairs and then also cut another lock on top of the tank that's the access hatch," said Mcintyre.

Mcintyre says the tank which services 1,000 customers was immediately taken offline. A backup tank is providing water to customers.

Droneview 7 video shows there are two tanks near Wild Horse Valley Drive. Mcintyre says he is not releasing the exact one that was broken into to prevent copycat criminals.

Water tests didn't turn up any contaminants, but Mcintyre says it's impossible to test for everything.

"Our number one priority is to protect our customer's drinking water supply, so we made the decision then to go ahead and start draining the tank," he explained.

"Who would want to contaminate water, especially since we just got past a drought and now all that water is wasted," said Novato resident Victoria Meblin.

Residents are both relieved by the Water District's fast response and frustrated.

"It's upsetting, I mean that's a lot of water that gets wasted," said Novato resident Ian Hopper.

Mcintyre says it's approximately $1,000 worth of water, but the real cost is priceless.

"Very frustrated, it's a precious resource. We don't take this decision lightly," said Mcintyre regarding the decision to dump the water.

While extremely rare, he says this is the second time in three years they've had a break in.

The Marin County Sheriff's Office is investigating. Mcintyre says there is no surveillance video of the break in.

The Water District is now reevaluating its security measures.

It’s those damn Grunion, again.

They break into water tanks and go swimming around and they, well, they relieve themselves in the water.

That’s why it’s only safe to drink Bourbon in California.

Personally, I think it was someone attempting to put something in the water supply that might cure Marinites of the disease of leftism.

Who cares about the water. It just goes back into the ground, so the Law of Conservation of Mass still applies. What is remarkable is that in this day and age our water supply, electrical generating plants, and so forth are all protected by... chain linked fences.

THESE are the same morons who want to perpetually shake down the US taxpayers for their Enviro wacko programs and they can’t even secure their own water?

Aw come on: Vandals regularly go up back roads for no purpose and carry bolt cutters in their pockets, cutting locks just for the “what-fer” of finding out what’s stored inside a large tank.

Here’s the dealeo: The entire tank could have been contaminated and not set off the alarm if that was the intent. So think about this:

Do you know wherefore come ur lectrolites? I’m not sure...certainly not the toilet...ya know, like kick ass.

If people knew how vulnerable, filthy & contaminated their water really was, there would be no ‘society’...

My bet is the vandals didn’t have their ‘tattoo’...

Send it to Flint.

Even water that’s probably been pissed in is better than what they drink.

I’m sure that is so - but are they typically wont to poison thousands of Americans by contaminating a public water supply?

There is only one ethnic culture whose “religious doctrine” compels its adherents to commit mass murder, and whose same “miscreants” act to do so on a regular basis - and we both know to which group of sub-humans I refer.

Explain why in this age of technology, and especially in this age of terrorism/eco activism there is not recorded surveillance taking place 24/7. They should know if not who the people are, at least what they look like.

“Who would want to contaminate water”

Is there any gray matter in these people? Any terrorist group would love to poison a bunch of US citizens. They would love for it to hit the papers so as to panic the citizens across the nation. And because it hit the papers this way, it will.

Definition of terrorism:

The use of violence and/or threats to intimidate or coerce especially for political purposes, or the state of fear and submission produced by terrorism or terroristic activities.

See any correlation, here? And this is coming from California whose political leaders(?) have decided to protect illegal foreign criminals in their cities. Morons.

BTW, where do you dump material of any nature, this time water, that could be contaminated without doing damage if is it contaminated since they can’t test for everything and don’t know? I repeat, morons.
