I'm a registered voter in PA. Just changed my voter registration to non-affiliated. Was registered Republican to vote for Trump, then I saw his budget proposal online to cut the COLA (Cost of Living Allowance) for retired federal and postal employees (I'm in that category) and this shocked me. The fact the government plans to give a COLA to Social Security recipients and federal and postal retirees is recognition that the inflation rate has increased. But why should the government punish federal and postal retirees (and incidentally, NOT punish Social Security recipients, not that I want to see them punished either) by giving us a COLA of one percent and Social Security recipients a COLA of 1.5 percent.

A month ago, I emailed my two Senators (one Democrat, one Republican), my Congressman (Republican), and the White House via their government websites, and I have not heard a thing, which tells me they are determined to go ahead with this and punish me and other federal and postal retirees unjustly. That's how they think about old people.

Therefore I have changed my voter registration back to non-affiliated. My only prayer now is, Dear Lord, please don't let them hurt us/me anymore. I didn't vote for President Trump to have his administration turn around and punish me. My federal retirement check is the only check I receive. I don't have enough quarters for Social Security and if I did, my social Security check would be reduced by two-thirds to compensate for my federal retirement check, it's called the Government Pension Offset. You all can have two full retirement checks, from your employer and Social Security, but not federal and postal retirees. You can double dip but not us. And then the administration continues to look on federal and postal retirees as leeches. Right now I feel numb about the whole political process.

You don't have enough work credits to qualify for Social Security, THEN WHAT ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT? Just feel fortunate that you DO qualify for your EMPLOYER'S retirement pension BECAUSE MANY OLDER PEOPLE AND NEARLY ALL YOUNGER WORKERS DO NOT GET A RETIREMENT PENSION OF ANY KIND FROM THEIR EMPLOYER!!

Sheesh! I thought one of the differences between Demoncrats and Republicans is THAT REPUBLICANS FOCUS ON WHAT'S GOOD FOR THE COUNTRY AND NOT JUST THEMSELVES PERSONALLY.

This reminds me of the DemonRat gay voter who votes on every issue based on how it affects the gay community WITHOUT ANY REGARD TO HOW IT AFFECTS CHILDREN OR OUR CULTURE AS A WHOLE.

“You all can have two full retirement checks, from your employer and Social Security”

There are so few people who work for companies who have pension plans. They may have a 401K plan, but that is NOT the same thing.

Just FYI: if you worked for the federal government and qualify for a pension, and you have enough quarters of outside employment to qualify for Social Security, and you wait to take Social Security until benefits max at age 70, you can receive both earned pensions.

If you can’t afford to be retired, get a job. Nobody ever promised you a wealthy retirement at a given age. If you didn’t save enough money throughout your lifetime to retire with the amount of money you need to live, quit whining, get a job, and get over it.

I lived outside the US for over 20 years. I haven’t paid into the SS system since 1991. Nor do I have a government pension.

my wife and I just saved, lived debt free, and invested. I retired 5 years ago at 52.

I don't understand why your retirement is reduced when you take SS. I like to better understand that.

What I can say though is the rest of us are NOT double-dipping as you say. I paid into SS and worked for 40 years to get a pension. They are two separate things.

Let me see if I have this correct. You changed back from a R to an I because you may only get a 1% COLA instead of a 1.5% COLA?

I’m only posting now so I can come back later to rip you to shreds. I don’t have time at the moment, unfortunately.

Look at it this way. A democrat might PROMISE you a big COLA, but the damage they do to the nation’s economy means the FEDGOV is further in debt and revenues continue to decline without more taxes.

Or, you can vote Trump and Republicans (who back him—not RINOs) who will get the economy roaring again and thus vastly increase FEDGOV revenues with more money for things like a COLA for pensioners.

I consider a vote for Trump & R a more likely and certainly BETTER outcome.
