I would hope our intelligence services are better than that.

They're too busy undermining their President.

Megan is technically correct.

It is not an “Intercontinental Ballistic Missile”, it’s an IRBM - Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile.

The fact that its trajectory is highly eccentric with a subterranean perigee means that it’s a ballistic missile, just not with the long range needed to move between continents.

But it’s close, and possibly scalable to a multistage ICBM.

Solution: MOAB their entire launch site and manufacturing infrastructure.

Don’t apologize.

Don’t worry about China’s response. They won’t start WWIV over it.

Both China and Russia siding with NK. The truck that had that ICBM on it was Chinese.

You mean like launching a missile like today and then floating a cargo ship into a busy port while everyone is watching the sky...

Here’s the deal: If NK has a death wish, all they need is orbital ability and detonate a few in the stratosphere.

I’ve read the technical papers; the EMP threat is very real, “if” they can mount a sufficiently-sized warhead on a suitable launch vehicle.

“We” are the losers either way: Fallout or return to 19th Century devices. Thanks GW & Nobama.

I don’t believe that a nation like NK could actually build an ICBM. They execute their own scientists and technicians for “failure”. As Stalin learned the threat of death doesn’t make people more productive. They may work harder but the constant fear leads to more failures not less.

These missiles are being built by foreign techs and most of the components built in other countries. This particular missile had to haven been designed and building started years ago. When Obozo wasPrez.

I agree. The truck carrying it was Chinese. Iran is getting this tech too is my guess. Russian helping too.

Can anyone say if the Navy recovers those NorK rockets that splash into the Sea of Japan?

Iran will pay for the warheads and missiles developed by N.K. That missile, or rather several copies, will show up in Iran within a year.

If you’re gonna be nitpicky, you left out HW and Reagan, given the span of AQ Khan’s operations...

You would think the Navy had sea recovery assets out there with all the ordinance butterball sends to the sea of Japan. If you don't see Chinese/Russian recovery teams frantically working to recover anything they might have supplied from being discovered, then Iran with no Navy recovery assets might not be too far fetched.

Perhaps I took a long nap at the wrong time, but did I miss WW3?

:-O

And if so... we're still here... so I guess we won?

How are the North Koreans creating these rockets?
Are the Chinese or Pakistani’s helping?

The NK problem exists because MacArthur was not permitted to do his job. Hairy Ass Truman was not so hot as a president.

I guess the question is; have they been shooting a lot of purposeful failures to make us think they are further behind than we believe? This one seems to have been a success and we can only conjecture its actual range/accuracy.

It has been widely agreed to be capable of reaching Alaska.
