Sarah Palin suit against NYT question
Vanity

Posted on 06/28/2017 12:40:54 AM PDT by airedale

Sarah Palin has announced a lawsuit against the NYT and i have a quick question, NYT has 2 classes of stock, Class A is publically traded and the families Class B which is not traded and really controls the company, Can Sarah Palin demand payment especially for punitive damages in Class B stock rather than cash, That would really get their attention and make them make real changes, I doubt that it can be done,

Any settlement or judgement would likely be paid by the company’s errors and liability insurance coverage.

In a word — no. Suits for damages are limited to monetary remedies.

You can only claim actual damages in cases of defamation. No costs or fees or punitive damages. The best reason for suing a newspaper is to damage their reputation as a reliable and truthful news source.

Of course, as South Park pointed out, she could sue them in England. LOL.

I don't know how she could claim jurisdiction, but I like the idea. The company I work for did major business in Brazil, and what a pain in the ass that is. Everyone is venal. One of our local representatives was recorded on the phone as saying of a legislator, "This guy just wants a suitcase full of money." It created a major scandal in Brazil (spare me the sanctimony) and the legislator sued in England. Needless to say, we dropped the local rep like a hot potato, because the suit might well have been successful.

Brazil will remain poor as long as they have to pay a corruption tax on everything.

Considering how just about every outlet of the MSM took part in anti-Sarah defamations, lawsuits like this one could keep her busy for the rest of her life.
