Sen. Richard J. Durbin said Wednesday Chicago’s sanctuary city policy isn’t about protecting illegal immigrants, but rather is a matter of poverty — the city doesn’t have enough money to turn illegal immigrants over to federal authorities.
“Come on Uncle Sam, where’s the money?” Mr. Durbin, Illinois Democrat, said in a hearing called to look at gangs’ prevalence among illegal immigrants.

They are too poor to pick up the phone & tell ICE they have an illegal in jail? Did anybody tell Durbin he was crazy or did the press just”your are right, this must be correct” and then run to print it?
Wouldn’t it be cheaper for sanctuary city to turn the illegals over to the Feds than for the sanctuary city to keep them in their custody?
How about cut off all Fed funding and declare Chicago a no fly zone ?

I thought illegal aliens were the key to prosperity. They should have lots of money.
Perhaps Durbin is on to something. Perhaps local law enforcement coffers should be reimbursed $100 for any and all illegal alien detained AND deported.

For every illegal alien they catch and detain, turn over to the Feds, pay them $1000 finders fee....................
When I policed early in my life, I raised my hand swore to uphold and defend my city, state and nation. I also swore to enforce all laws - local, state and federal - and I was taught that it was my duty to do so.
From what I have read and heard for the last few years modern police don’t have the same duty.

The federal government already pays cities to report illegal immigrants. The sanctuary cities take the money and do nothing. What the Republicans want to do is if the cities are not going to report illegals, then the federal government shouldn’t pay for it.
It’s stupid for thinking the government should pay for nothing.
