Are We Nearing Civil War?
Townhall.com ^ | June 13, 2017 | Pat Buchanan

President Trump may be chief of state, head of government and commander in chief, but his administration is shot through with disloyalists plotting to bring him down.

We are approaching something of a civil war where the capital city seeks the overthrow of the sovereign and its own restoration.

Thus far, it is a nonviolent struggle, though street clashes between pro- and anti-Trump forces are increasingly marked by fistfights and brawls. Police are having difficulty keeping people apart. A few have been arrested carrying concealed weapons.

That the objective of this city is to bring Trump down via a deep state-media coup is no secret. Few deny it.

Last week, fired Director of the FBI James Comey, a successor to J. Edgar Hoover, admitted under oath that he used a cutout to leak to The New York Times an Oval Office conversation with the president.

Goal: have the Times story trigger the appointment of a special prosecutor to bring down the president.

Comey wanted a special prosecutor to target Trump, despite his knowledge, from his own FBI investigation, that Trump was innocent of the pervasive charge that he colluded with the Kremlin in the hacking of the DNC.

Comey's deceit was designed to enlist the police powers of the state to bring down his president. And it worked. For the special counsel named, with broad powers to pursue Trump, is Comey's friend and predecessor at the FBI, Robert Mueller.

As Newt Gingrich said Sunday: "Look at who Mueller's starting to hire. ... (T)hese are people that ... look to me like they're ... setting up to go after Trump ... including people, by the way, who have been reprimanded for hiding from the defense information into major cases. ...

"This is going to be a witch hunt."

Another example. According to Daily Kos, Trump planned a swift lifting of sanctions on Russia after inauguration and a summit meeting with Vladimir Putin to prevent a second Cold War.

The State Department was tasked with working out the details.

Instead, says Daniel Fried, the coordinator for sanctions policy, he received "panicky" calls of "Please, my God, can you stop this?"

Operatives at State, disloyal to the president and hostile to the Russia policy on which he had been elected, collaborated with elements in Congress to sabotage any detente. They succeeded.

"It would have been a win-win for Moscow," said Tom Malinowski of State, who boasted last week of his role in blocking a rapprochement with Russia. State employees sabotaged one of the principal policies for which Americans had voted, and they substituted their own.

Not in memory have there been so many leaks to injure a president from within his own government, and not just political leaks, but leaks of confidential, classified and secret documents. The leaks are coming out of the supposedly secure investigative and intelligence agencies of the U.S. government. The media, the beneficiaries of these leaks, are giving cover to those breaking the law. The real criminal "collusion" in Washington is between Big Media and the deep state, colluding to destroy a president they detest and to sink the policies they oppose.

Yet another example is the unfolding "unmasking" scandal.

While all the evidence is not yet in, it appears an abnormal number of conversations between Trump associates and Russians were intercepted by U.S. intelligence agencies.

On orders higher up, the conversations were transcribed, and, contrary to law, the names of Trump associates unmasked.

Then those transcripts, with names revealed, were spread to all 16 agencies of the intel community at the direction of Susan Rice, and with the possible knowledge of Barack Obama, assuring some would be leaked after Trump became president.

The leak of Gen. Michael Flynn's conversation with the Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, after Obama imposed sanctions on Russia for the hacking of the DNC, may have been a product of the unmasking operation. The media hit on Flynn cost him the National Security Council post.

Trump has had many accomplishments since his election. Yet his enemies in the media and their deep state allies have often made a purgatory of his presidency.

What he and his White House need to understand is that this is not going to end, that this is a fight to the finish, that his enemies will not relent until they see him impeached or resigning in disgrace.

To prevail, Trump will have to campaign across this country and wage guerrilla war in this capital, using the legal and political weapons at his disposal to ferret out the enemies within his own government.

Not only is this battle essential, if Trump hopes to realize his agenda, it is winnable. For the people sense that the Beltway elites are cynically engaged in preserving their own privileges, positions and power.

If the president cannot rewrite Obamacare or achieve tax reform, he should not go around the country in 2018 wailing about Nancy Pelosi or Chuck Schumer. They are not the real adversaries. They are but interchangeable parts.

He should campaign against the real enemies of America First by promising to purge the deep state and flog its media collaborators.

Time to burn down the Bastille.

I may have misunderstood what you are saying, because I agree with what you just posted. All I am really getting at is that in the ongoing escalation of tension (if there is such a thing), state governments will play a role. And that if tensions are well-short of all-out conflict, many people are just going to find themselves as impotent minorities within a state that is doing things that they don't agree with. As far as people "going along with what the state government wants"? I have no idea. But I think tensions would have to be quite high for there to be serious intra-state conflict. I think it is more likely that the 1/4 residents of WV, for example, will find themselves relegated to just screaming at the television set, and making snide comments at dinner parties.

Now if WV were to join a coalition of states rebelling against whatever government replaces Trump's (a very, VERY, unlikely scenario)? Then yes, these people would probably pull a Sarajevo and head for the hills.

“But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security”

Stands true today for the Trump Admin.

You do not understanding the country and its people at all. Let's say DC gets annihilated with smuggled in nuclear weapons. Completely gone. Ok somebody in Nebraska is going to suddenly pick up up rifle and start shooting? At what? Is the Army (500,000 strong) going to enforce marshal law on the entire USA? No. Are the Governors going to assert their authority? Yes.

You people watch WAY to much TV and read way to many doomsday novels.

There will be a TOTAL breakdown of “law and order” as you put it.

Why? Do the police go away? Do people become murderous idiots because DC is burning? No.

A real economic collapse can be triggered by the collapse of the petro-dollar, due to re-alignment of political and economic blocs. (Think Russia-Iran-Iraq-Syria bloc & Turkey-Azerbaijan-Qatar-Muslim Brotherhood bloc)

Or by the interest rate on the national debt rising sufficiently.

This is of course ignoring lower-probability black swan events, such as another sun-initiated “Carrington Event” like in 1859 or a rogue nation like North Korea launching an EMP strike.

Also, the nature of a CW II would be different than CW I. A good strategy for Red vs urban Blue would be to blow all the bridges leading into a Blue city, destroy all the powerlines going in, and cut off the water supply, food supply and let them stew in their own raw sewage as they starve, loot and die of cholera.

I believe that with the use of information technology in rapid mobility it will take a while before state lines mean much. When a civil war starts there will be a lot of low-level gorilla attacks against targets on both sides regardless of where they live, what they do,and how much money they have. People will start self-segrgatiing and neighborhoods and towns will drive out those they feel do not belong.

We live in a world where information and millions of people can be shared effortlessly. Motivated groups and individuals will be able to find out everything they need to know from voter rolls, government databases, private marketing databases, etc. There are many social analytical software tools that can be used to analyze phone records and emails, perform sentiment analysis that will give very clear information on targets. Imagine all of the corporate world's marketing tools turned to violence ends.

Here is a graph analysis of the Star Wars movie characters:

As you can see from the graph above, Obi-Wan the old, desert-rat, hermit "knows too much!"

I used Star Wars to lighten the mood of an otherwise Orwellian topic. For background on this type of analysis here is the link the the Star Wars Social Network http://evelinag.com/blog/2015/12-15-star-wars-social-network/

With this type of analytical tool the nodes of the major players can be sized, colored, and arranged according to their centrality, number of connections to other actors/nodes that that you're interested in. With this type of tool information starts popping out and people of influence or of interest become visible. Imagine this being applied to people in your neighborhood or City based on information regarding who they call, email, text, write checks to, what restaurants they eat at, what clubs/associations they belong too.

These tools can and will be used in the event of the Civil War in America. While we have a lot of tree hugging savages, Americans of all political beliefs are very techno-savvy. This may be turn out to be the first information-driven Civil War.

I could beat a plowshare like a bell and get my black powder rifle out...however, more likely, I would have my revolver, 9 shooter, Stryker, shotgun, etc. etc., at the ready.

320 million people in the USA and all of them are different. People in the South relate and feel allegiance to the state of their birth. I cannot speak for Yankees but down here many the majority, but not all of course, will immediately fall back on the state and show patriotism to their state and governor(s). Some states, mostly Yankee, where a lot of socialist live and depend on government will immediately go anarchy. This will exacerbate the secession that will surely follow. Each state, each community is different. They may be anarchy in huge cities but

"President Trump may be chief of state, head of government and commander in chief, but his administration is shot through with disloyalists plotting to bring him down."

Hmmm. I think it goes without saying that there is a coup actively underway in our country... And I hope the shooting starts pretty soon because if it don't, we are going to lose.....

I believe the progressives (better known as the commies) probably won't start the action because they are winning right now... So, there is no need for them to do so at this time... But we, (better known as he Constitutional Conservatives) on the other hand, better make our move pretty darn soon because the left is busy importing their "ARMY" into our country as fast as they can..!!! And YES... I really believe this to be true.. That's why the stinking, lousy traitor known as the obummer refused to enforce our immigration laws and imported all those Muslims.......

The one thing we got going for us is the vast majority of the oath takers, that is to say the police, army and such, are on our side... I don't want to be on the losing side so the sooner we start the dance the better....

MHO....

Things to consider might be camouflaged sentry guns (inside a vegetation-covered concrete or metal cloche) that face inwards (towards your residence) but such that your residence wouldn’t be hit by them. (so that an enemy would only see them once they have walked PAST them and get shot in the back)

The better-constructed paint ball sentry guns could be used as a guide to create a sturdier sentry with stronger servos that could handle firing something like 5.7 rounds.

Also, body armor and armor carriers should not be neglected. There are also decently-priced armored masks available to protect the face.

Read recent history.

The central power collapses, a lot of repressed grievances suddenly become bloody.

Do you really think that people will keep playing nice once the power of the FedGov is gone?

I am saying it's regional some regions will handle it seamlessly some regions anarchy will prevail. Bottom line people don't become suicidal/homicidal ruthless uncivilized animals when the central government collapses.

So what happens to the governor of Alabama for example in your scenario? Does he slink off into the corner and cower in the fetal position?

I don’t know much about Alabama. Probably realign the SEC.

Nebraska will probably cheer and paint red “N”s on all the nukes at Offut. Again (the techs got into some trouble last time). Maybe schedule Oklahoma for a Thanksgiving game again.

But New York? Georgia? Illinois?

Other mixed states?

Someone will try to “solve” the problem.

In time, even those “calm” states will get sucked in. When a State fails, it doesn’t do so quietly.

How many snowflake battalions will march out of the universities and enter the battlefield in your opinion?
