Repeal the Jones Act of 1920 and they can turn it around.

Looks like New York is reaping all the benefits of a poor Puerto Rico.

Was at Rosey Roads a lot with the Navy in the 80s. A festering wreck then, and then the local communists forced the base to close. That instantly threw the island into bankruptcy. Then they cried and demanded more money. Tough luck, PR. Doesn’t congress have to pass at least a 2/3 vote to make it a state?

Yeah. Saw a show on Cuban healthcare. One scene shows a guy lugging his grandfather to a hospital over broken ground in a wheelbarrow.

One thing we don’t need is another welfare state.

They pay NO federal income tax.....and they want to go and spoil that deal....that's like a person turning down a free Rolls Royce because it's not in his favorite color.

I worked with a man from Puerto Rico who spent a lot of time at Vieques as a defense contractor. He hated these activists, because he knew the locals LOVED the US military for funding so much of the local economy. When the range shut down, there went most of the jobs ...

Notice Nebraska.

Higher taxes, but they are all pretty much detailed into what they go into.

Actually that referendum means nothing. But almost all media reports (most come through the AP) will not cite the 23% turnout. Will somebody check on what the AP reported. If they reported the low turnout then it would be your local news editor who withheld that fact.

The Republican House and Senate will never allow it. PR is predominantly Democrat and would upset the current balance.

Congress needs to not hold any vote until PR can get at least 75% voter participation so PR proves it isn’t just railroading the issue. 23% voters voting ?

“The uh, concern is that if we put too many soldiers on Guam it uh, might capsize.”

Dead serious too.
